Well, that eliminates me from participating in the game thread. :(

Me too!

I just returned from Stop&Shop where I participated in a check-out counter discussion of how lousy ESPN baseball broadcasts are.

There was uninamininty about getting rid of Mendoza who blows goats.

I wish there were a way to coordinate Castiglione and Neverett with the video on ESPN on days like this. I've even been known to do that knowing what's going to happen on the tv before it happens. (I don't know if that sentence makes any sense,....but.. you know what I mean! LOL)

The tv and radio broadcast are on different delays.

It can drive you nuts listening to the radio and watching the tv.

He'll be hurt by then.

Major lulz.

On the one hand I am happy that the moron is having some success. And this will make Kimmi oh so happy, I assume. That's nice.

But we all know what is next on the dance card for the lunkhead.

In ingrown toenail and a protracted DL stint.

Yawn.

This is a yuge game for Mr. Tingles. The previous 3 starters (none named Sale) have shutdown the mighty Yankees. Does price have the attitude and desire to step up and keep the bats quiet? Does he give us a vintage Price outing or another stinker? He can prove a lot tonight. Which is saying something in an otherwise meaningless game for the Sox.

As for espn...looking forward to 9 innings of A-roid sucking yankee dicks.

This will be a festival of Yankee bag lapping.

In the words of my Russian former wife "I can't to wait".

JBJ not playing. Wow! He sits, Pearce DH, Martinez in RF, Betts in CF.

JBJ hasn't hit Tanaka good in the Majors I guess. .167 avg. 5 for 30

Pearce is 1 HR away from the HR record in a Sox-Yankee series (5 by Babe Ruth).

.167 JBJ vs Tanaka

.333 Pearce vs Tanaka (2 HRs in 15 ABs)

I'd bet there are Yankees fans who are saying that after losing the first three and falling 8 1/2 back this is a must win ballgame for the Y's, if just to say that they can play with the Sox.

No doubt it is a much bigger game for the Yankees, they need to show some muscle. Makes Price's performance all the bigger. if he can shut them down, it will create much distress in the Bronx. BTW, I do believe strongly in stepping on their throats when they are down. Never give an inch to New York

As we speak the Yankees are hanging a blanket up in their clubhouse with three holes cut in it.

We should have signed him when we had the chance.

When Buchholz is right, he pitches like an ace.

$1.5 mil is peanuts.

Sox are 8 1/2 up and counting. But you have to admit that , unlike our decimated one , they have an impressive and well stocked farm system. I guess that is why , in a must win game for them , they have uber prospects Shane Robinson and Luke Voit in the lineup. Why don't we have " kids " like that ?

Since we're guessing, it could very well be that the Yankees as an organization feel that their farm is deep enough and good enough that they don't have to win it this year, that this is a building year for them. The Sox do have to win it because their window is small.

If that's the Yankees philosophy I don't agree with it because I believe you need to pull out all the stops every time you have a chance to win the WS. You never know what's going to happen 'next year'. As I keep saying, "Don't save a pitcher for tomorrow. It might rain tomorrow". But I wasn't the first one to say it. :)

Or perhaps the Yankees just graduated a bunch of prospects, some of whom are on the DL, and the next set of top prospects are one or two years away.

We do, Devers and Pedroia (lol). Also Swihart , just to get things roiled up, not to mention Castillo. I would throw Beeks in there (under the bus) but he works elsewhere now.

I could not agree more. Win the game you are playing today, it is the only one available.and that counts.

I imagine most everyone shares understanding of the long term effects of a barren farm system but here's a couple thoughts:

It takes 3 -5 years to graduate a competent , home grown from your system to the MLB level. The system keeps refilling every year from the bottom up. You are never too far away from reloading (2 seasons?)

When you win consistently, you draft later lowering your chances of getting a stud. On the other hand, look up Patriots, New England for an alternate theory.

Each year 30 teams show up ready to win it all. About 15 of these have no chance going in, Wrong place in the cycle, wrong players, manager, organization , no money nor appeal to FA's, etc.= No chance

Of the other 15 , 5 would love to just make the WC game , 5 more expect to be good and 5 think they can win it all. 10 make the playoffs and a 2 days later , it is down to 8 remaining . Maybe 1 of the 8 gets hot and beats a better team. Now you have 3 strong teams plus a lucky dog. One each representing their league move on to the WS. Only one team of the 10 that made the playoffs wins its last game. Everyone else lost. The prize is to be that ONE, not whether your farm system won 4 of 5 lower level league championships. With a team like the Red Sox in 2018, you have got to go for it all at whatever expense, budgetary or future talent. People would have had to experience the futility of the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's to fully appreciate why it's hard to care about the players at Pawtucket, Portland or anywhere else.

Honestly, even with the radio broadcast being out of sync with the Video feed, it is worth it not to have to listen to the three blind mice in the ESPN booth. I literally don't care about being out of sync. They are that bad in that ESPN booth.

And we start the ESPN Sunday Night Death March.

If I set the time the game ends at midnight who'd take the under and who'd take the over?

Listening to the weei feed thru my iPad. Had to pause the nesn feed thru directv for a couple seconds to sync up.

Normally I wouldn’t hesitate to say over but the last 2 nights have been quick.
