RHP Masahiro Tanaka (9-2, 3.84) vs LHP David Price (11-6, 3.97)

Let's finish the job. We've come too far and played too well not to get this sweep. Win. Dance. Repeat. x4.

No complaining about ESPN in my gamethread. Thanks

Would be most interesting how Price pitches against the MFY. He throws more middle in pitches to a RHH in an inning than the MFY does to Betts in 19 regular season matchup. Tanaka is a junk baller, who never goes after hitters. They have hit him well this year.

Well, that eliminates me from participating in the game thread. :(

Shove that negativity up your ass. ;)

C'mon, Dewey. I have one word that will make ESPN bearable; MUTE.

I wish there were a way to coordinate Castiglione and Neverett with the video on ESPN on days like this. I've even been known to do that knowing what's going to happen on the tv before it happens. (I don't know if that sentence makes any sense,....but.. you know what I mean! LOL)

In unrelated news, Clay Buchholz is now 5-1 with a 2.68 ERA for the Diamondbacks . It is not beyond a mathematical possibility of facing Clay B in a WS game. Not a high probability but but still floating out there.

In related news, tonight's game is both a big deal, and then not so much.

It's a big deal to see if David Price can get a good game in vs. NYY ; to see if the hitters can jump Tanaka and hit his slop ; to go up 9.5 games with less than 50 to go for the Sox (54 for NY); to shove pie in the face of all Yankee trolls; to sweep NY with a Red Sox DL list that looks like some team's dream roster .

It's not so much of a critical game because of the 3 wins in the books already . Even if NY won all of the 4 game differential, they would still be well in the rear view mirror.

Yup.

The most interesting thing about this is seeing if Price has True Grit.

Screw that, man.

Stomp 'em when they're down!

I'd bet there are Yankees fans who are saying that after losing the first three and falling 8 1/2 back this is a must win ballgame for the Y's, if just to say that they can play with the Sox.

If the Sox can win tonight it'll be time to get out the wooden stake and the mallet. We wouldn't be ready to start driving the stake yet but at least we'd have them out & ready.

He'll be hurt by then.

Never have understood complaints about announcers because I almost always have the sound off. Funny thing, but I also usually like radio announcers.

As for Buchholz, it appears two things have changed for him. First, surgery last year on his forearm, which might have helped. Second, last year was his last of three in which he was paid $13.5M/year. The four years before that he was paid $3.5M, $5.5M, $7.7M, and $12M. His current contract is for $1.5M and I'll just bet that has done wonders for his ability to concentrate.

I don't feel good about this game. (1) No confidence in Price. (2) The Red Sox have already won three out of four and that may take the edge or level of intensity away from their hitters and thus I'm expecting a sluggish offensive night with Red Sox hitters swinging at pitches out of the zone. Tanaka tries to get ahead and then expands the zone. If hitters don't lay off, Tanaka will pitch like an ace. If hitters lay off his junk out of the zone--the splitter in the dirt--you can knock Tanaka around. He doesn't beat you by throwing strikes.

My lineup:

Betts RF (he struck out 3 times on Saturday swinging at pitches out of the zone. If he does that again tonight, he gets benched for two games. I'm a tough manager)

Benintendi LF

Moreland 1b

Martinez DH

Bogaerts SS

Bradley CF

Holt 2b

Leon C

Renda 3b (will probably put together more professional at bats than Nunez)

The Sox are so good that Baltimore is 44.5 games back. The Royals have a nearly identical record and they’re only 26.5 games out of first. That’s how much better the Sox are than anyone else.

The two teams in the race for the number one pick.

This is a yuge game for Mr. Tingles. The previous 3 starters (none named Sale) have shutdown the mighty Yankees. Does price have the attitude and desire to step up and keep the bats quiet? Does he give us a vintage Price outing or another stinker? He can prove a lot tonight. Which is saying something in an otherwise meaningless game for the Sox.

As for espn...looking forward to 9 innings of A-roid sucking yankee dicks.

I'm expecting a quality start For Price. Time to shut the Fans up. Hope he kicks ass. Edited by OH FOY!

Best chance for Price to play well against the Yanks with their cold bats and Price coming off a great performance. Basically Price needs to pitch good this game. If not I don’t think we trust him against the Yanks come playoff time.
