I just saw that lack of hustle by Sanchez. Because in today's game there appears to be no punishment for that behavior, it will continue. I only wish Sanchez had done that when Billy Martin was the manager. Martin would have been all over him like a fly on s***. And guaranteed he wouldn't be playing in the next few games.

Boone: "Please don't do that again."

Sanchez (thru an interpreter): "Get out of my face."

The Yankems are 10-10 against the O'S and the Rays. The SOX are 19-5.

The Yankems are 5-4 against the SOX.

There's the 6 game lead the SOX enjoy.

That is actually pretty amazing stuff over a 4 game set or an any game set. Porcello shows that his hiccup was a one-timer. Although it may get rained on, Pomeranz will try to work his way back tomorrow. Nice to have a set vs the Birds to get your wanderers back in game shape.

I'm sure many will be watching to see how Boone handles Sanchez's lack of effort which is far more egregious than Dever's lack of situational awareness , as compared to Cora's handling of Dever's lack of situational awareness which can be overcome. Sanchez's actions are not likely to be overcome with his teammates. maybe he knows he is on the trading block . Dever's definitely needs to feel Cora's bite for a very bad brain lapse in a key situation. He may be 21 but needs to wake up if he is to get better. Edited by vegasbob

Did anyone else think that was a nifty play to end the game?

He may not be George Scott, but Moreland does play a good 1st base.

Now if he could only hit 30 homers a like proper 1st baseman should.

I liked how he took the sure out at first before throwing it to second. Always get that sure out.

A pretty good player for 6 million. He is signed for that amount next year too.

Sanchez is on the trade block? I didn't know that. he does suck defensively. Part of it, though, is the pitching staff, the pitching philosophy of Rothschild: "throw a slider in the dirt and when you have finished throwing a slider in the dirt throw another one in the dirt and then another and another. . . ."

Teams should run on the Yankees more especially with two strikes on the batter. Once the Yankees pitching staff gets two strikes, it is slider in the dirt time.

I thought that that that was an excellent play. Great throw to second. These are the types of guys that DD likes. Great signing - true pro.

I actually think Gary Thorne is a Red Sox fan. He's from New England.

Gary Thorne is an *******. He gives Mainers a bad name.

I just watched the replays of first the double play, which took a long time because the ball was flipped to a fielder who then had to run to 2b, tag it, run past it, and then throw to 1b, second how Sanchez basically sauntered to 1b until the end when he sped up a little at the end but still was able to blow a bubble after being out at 1b. Game-ending GIDP.

Impressive, I agree. Four games without ERod or Wright. The big three--Sale, Porcello, Price--came thru, and so did Johnson the backup.

I do not, however, expect to be impressed by Pomeranz tonight.

Not only did Sanchez not hustle running to first base in the 9th inning, he also did not hustle going after the passed ball in the first inning, which allowed the Rays to score a run from 2nd base. If there is anything that warrants a benching, it's that.

I just knew the Rays were going to blow that game. LOL

Excellent play. It doesn't get the attention of a JBJ catch, but it was a very heads up and well executed play.

It was indeed.

Another great play was when when someone doubled into the left-center gap. Bennie takes the ball off the wall and makes a strong throw to Bogey at second who pegs it home to cut down a runner by a mile.

I know people love the long ball ( admit that I do ) but when you see well executed defense it has to make you smile.

That is baseball in it's essence.

Agreed.

I would take a well pitched and well defended pitcher's duel over a slugfest any day.

Note about tonight's game. Weather reports all say continued rain. Plus flash flood warnings of course. If this means Pom misses a start, I for one will be heartbroken. This guy has it all and is all business when he goes out to the mound.

I don't know. I've read somewhere that POM pitches some of his best games during flood warnings..
