i actually think 2b is our weakness. specifically 2b defense. DD needs to upgrade here. Pedroia IMO is not going to contribute this year. and we have a good shot at making the postseason so should be all in on 2018.

 

If Pedroia will be unable to return, then I'd tend to agree.

 

As of now, I think we can afford to wait the situation out a little longer.

The way I understand it, Pedey is not going to take part in baseball related activities for a few weeks and concentrate on healing and whatever physical therapy they choose to keep him in shape. After that period which will be into July, they will have to test his situation again and see if he is likely to be able to return to playing this season. If not, they will have time to come up with a full time second baseman. Until that time they can play Holt and Nunez who can fill in but shouldn't be considered fulll time replacements. There was a list of probable replacements who are adequate fielders but none are the kind of players some on the site yearn for (game changers).

The early word is the Royals didn't get any of the Nats top prospects... even weirder.

 

If the Sox had made this trade, we'd have gone over the max limit, assuming we dumped no salary of our own.

 

 

The Nats will take over the $7,937,500 salary that Herrera is earning in his final season of arbitration eligibility. With 82 of the 186 service-eligible days of the MLB calendar already in the books, the Washington organization will be on the hook for something like $4.44M.

Trading ERod or Devers is not trading the bench.

 

Our bench is fine when compared to other benches, but they aren't valuable enough to get Machado.

 

Mostof our players are too highly paid for the O's to want, and the young guys they'd want, Beni, Devers & ERod are not only part of our essential core for 2018 and 2019, they are some of the few that are essential to our future beyond 2019 or 2020.

 

DD is not trading any of our best young core for 2 month rental.

 

This isn't fantasy baseball, where you can reboot your team next season.
