My eyes show he sucks, but the numbers show he's ok in the OF, but I'll be consistent and go with those that have large enough sample sizes:

SS: -13.4 (2091 innings) -42 DRS

2B: -9.7 (729 innings) -15 DRS

3B: -7.1 (1902 innings) -5 DRS

OF: +17.0 (322 innings) -3 DRS

He sucks.

But your eyes are so bad that you need to post everything in bold? How can your eye test be that accurate, moon? Stats win.

Where the heck did you get these numbers? They must be someone else's. For one thing Holt only has 286 innings at SS.

lol

The Red Sox have multiple batters in their everyday lineup who aren't hitting well, need to at some point replace a couple of them and catcher is as good a place as any to start.

Maybe Leon will have a better season than 2016.

"Fat Sandy" telling Natick to sit the hell down!

I'd welcome it with a joyous heart and forgiving demeanor.

Have to retract my view on Sandy for sure ...Sandy Leon has been good the past two weeks .....looks like Blake got a couple hits today and scored a run ? Playing 1b ? Nice job Blake .

Blake finally passed Vaz in OPS, but with so few PAs, he's maybe one oh for 4 away from passing him on the downturn.

any one of these guys could have a 3 hit night and skyrocket past the other one right now. Sox should have given Blake more developmental time behind the plate, he'd have a golden opportunity right now.

I seriously doubt Sox management would have given up on Swihart's catcher development, if they really fely he showed any signs of improvement to the point of projecting to decency on defense behind the plate.

I'm not saying team managements never make mistakes, and maybe this was one of them, but Swihart has been given chances. He's clung to a roster spot this year out of management giving him yet another chance to re-invent himself.

Had he showed growth, he'd have been kept at catcher. It's not like Leon and Vaz are that great that anyone would say a promising catcher was blocked.

They had Vasquez and Leon both playing well, and they thought Swiharts bat was too good to give up so they gave him reps elsewhere. Swihart was still developing but he was a top 25 prospect in all of baseball at one point for a reason.

I think the Sox screwed up his development, but lets hope the book isn't closed on him just yet.

Nobody gives up on a catcher who shows promising offense.

They moved on for a reason. The fact that he barely played at all while our catchers were hitting .450 combined tells the whole story.

Sox management has no confidence in his defensive abilities. They have kept him in the system in hopes his offense improves and he can become a decent utility player.

He could hit .350 this year, and they'll still not move him to catcher going forward.

He's been given a chance to improve his 1B defense and maybe LF or 3B at some point. His bat is going to keep him around or send him packing.

He had an .854 OPS with 4 times this year's PAs back in 2016. It's possible he'll have a long hot streak like he did back then.

I know you hope he flops, and maybe he will, but I'll keep hoping for the best and enjoying his superior play behind the plate- where it matters.

Blake dreams of being as good as Sandy Leon.

Hmm. Defensively, yes.

I am of the opinion that Leon is the Sox best defensive catcher. I am confident that others here will immediately post data to disprove the accuracy of my opinion.

I think Swihart has a better "hit tool" than Leon but he has not had much of an opportunity to demonstrate this in recent years.

I still believe that Swi will be dealt.
