No. Maine. The only games we got were the Giants (football), and I hated them the same way I had been trained to hate the Yankees. I rooted for whoever played against them, and my teams were variously Browns (bec. of J. Brown), Eagles (Chuck B played both ways), Colts (bec. of the greatest game ever played) and finally the Packers. I believe Dallas soon occupied the "hate-at-all-costs" approach I had used as a kid for the Giants. (Wietecha--the name is vaguely familiar, so I looked him up-- is a little late for me).

jad - What happened to me I wonder? My mother stuck me in front of that 1958 game and I've been a Giants fan since then. I did adopt the Pats a few years ago though. lol I'm a Mainer and like you said the - Giants really were the only game in town up here.

Yes Sir. I have a "baseball card" of him. He went on to coach with Vince Lombardi. My friend used to be a ball boy for the Packers and would play catch with Bart Starr who my friends say was a giant dick.

God they had some great teams with Starr though.

I lived in Milwaukee during the Lombardi era.

The Packers won 5 championships in 7 years (5 before the Super Bowl).

I have a very talented golfing friend up here who played golf with Chuck Bednarik many years ago. He said that he was a pretty good player but had a hard time gripping the club normally because none of his fingers were straight. Imagine that - with that guy not hard to believe!

Ha. No surprise. It was impossible to play then without getting spiked with those screw-on cleats. He died, what, 2 or 3 years ago?

Today, Lombardi would be fined and reprimanded by the league. He worked his team harder than other coaches. He was a big believer in conditioning — lots of practices.
