What is going on with the Brewers???

They got Cain for 5/80

Some trade for one of their OF should be in the works.

At $80M/5, I guess we can dispell the rumors of owner collusion to drive salaries down.

What was the projection for him?

MLBTR projected $70M/4, so it's about what was expected.

Wade Davis is the only other top 10 FA to sign, and he got more total money than projected, too.

I am surprised to see a 5 yr deal for a player whose game is based on athleticism at his age. He turns 32 in the first month of the season. They just locked him up until he is 36 yrs old. He will be a minus the last 2 years of that deal easy. Probably the last 3

Kinda reminds me of the fools who signed Ellsbury.

Ouch.

The Brewers are dealing. I'm glad at least one team is.

Not to me

Ellsbury deal is even worst, in that deal the last 4 years

Yeah, contracts like Ellsbury and Crawford are exactly why 'the industry' is supposedly re-thinking contracts of that length...

Yes, the Ellsbury deal was worse.

I said at the time, "I wouldn't have paid him half that much."

You have to think Martinez is digging in his heels even deeper on his demand for six years now, and it's kind of hard to blame him.

He can "demand" all he wants. If nobody offers more than 4, that's what he'll settle on. My guess is he gets 5.

I didn't want him at all, is basically am "injury prone" version of Gardner, if you remove his 2011 season his numbers are not even good.

Although in fairness he was coming off a strong season (5.6 fWAR).

He had the Sox 7th best OPS over a 4 year period before the signing, which included his monster year.

He just was not as good as many felt he was, and then the whole age and player type argument screamed, "STAY AWAY!"

Agree

But Ellsbury has only 4 seasons over 3WAR, Gardner has 7. Including the last 5

Gardner had 2.6 fWAR in 2015 and 2.4 fWAR in 2016.

Not bad seasons, but also not over 3 fWAR. ..

The dreaded fWAR-bWAR discrepancy strikes again!

Cue Dewey with the condemnations of WAR.

Well if people would just stick with fWAR, we wouldn't have to worry about it. ;)

I usually use bWAR, still the last few seasons have a big gap in performance

Ha. Never heard of it (them).

One word for heavy metal - UGH.

You've never heard of GWAR? They are the greatest interplanetary warrior heavy metal band from Richmond, VA. You need to go on youtube. They are right up your alley.

If you want, just watch it with the sound off.

If they are heavy metal, they are FAR, VERY FAR, from right up my alley.
