Red Sox:

1. Hosmer (7/150) wtf???

I will literally puke, if we sign Hosmer.

That Hosmer deal would be horrendous. He is a good player but I am against long term contracts like that, especially for someone like Hosmer whose had an absurdly inconsistent career.

I don't really have anything against signing Hosmer for the right deal, but 7/150 is crazy talk. Add to that the fact that he has a QO attached to him, and that's double crazy talk.

I'll puke if they sign either Royal to a big contract. Big to me is over 3/39.

Neither player represents a significant ENOUGH upgrade to warrant that kind of commitment. It would be doing the same stupid s*** they did with both Fatboy and The Sloth.

Waste of resources that will hinder roster construction even further. If DD signs either of those two I will lose faith in his ability to do the job he was hired to do.

I bet you will, I started looking at some FA predictions and the money for Hosmer is in that ballpark another site said something like 6/135, crazy high for a player like him.

In the other hand, if this is what he will get, how much for JD?? at least something similar

This is not the first time I see this Hosmer rumor, what really got my attention is the $$$

I think the Yankees will make some 40 man roster crunch trades come this GM meetings. I think two trades come down before the deadline. We'll still lose some good talent though.

the problem is that not only the post, MLBTR also has Hosmer with 6/135 or something like that

MLBTR has JD to the sox for 6/150, how do you like that?

Getting back to Yankee stuff...

There is a growing sentiment that the Yankees will land Otani. With the Yankees able to offer the second highest amount of cash plus with NY having both a hole at DH and 5th starter, Otani figures to want to play both ways and based upon the fact that he is coming out two years prior to being able to land a 9 figure guarantee, there is more than just money on his mind. From the sounds of it, the Japanese player loves the spotlight and what better place to take the spotlight than NYC.

Robby Thomson interviewed for the manager position. He is probably not getting the job as more guys will funnel in. There will be many other candidates and with the Yankees being the only team currently looking for a manager, they don't have to rush into the decision. Things should pick up once the AFL ends as one of their candidates is the Scottsdale Scorpions manager Jay Bell. Cashman stated that he wants someone who is analytical and will connect more with the young core of the team. Rumor has it that Girardi clashed with 2 Hispanic players in 2017, both of whom lost their positions for a bit (Gary Sanchez and Aroldis Chapman). An unnamed former player had said that Girardi's uber serious demeanor would grate on the players over time and made the clubhouse more robotic. In a sense, they're looking to have a little more fun. Either way, it is a desirable job for sure and Cashman will take his time. He's only had one managerial change in his soon to be 20 year tenure, and that was a decade ago.

There has been little to no news on the FA or trade front, which is pretty much status quo for Cashman. For a guy operating in the largest market in baseball, he somehow has kept a tight lid on accurate rumors coming out of his camp excepting the summer chase to get Sonny Gray.

And now that you mention it, there was that little social media incident after Game 2 of the ALDS with Chapman appearing to be in favor of Joe's firing.

I don’t have a problem with giving those three up, but I’m not sure why we’d deal a 2 WAR player plus for another 2 WAR player. Panek is what he is. He’s a good enough hitter who plays really good D. Castro is a very good to great hitter for the position who plays terrible D. I’d deal off Castro to pave the way for Torres, but I’d almost rather see us use a Castro deal to get something big

Over at another site, an insider was talking about a sneaking suspicion of the Yankees making an “out of left field” blockbuster. They have the prospects to get it done. We have a 40 man crunch coming with multiple guys guaranteed to be picked in the Rule 5.

Yankees appear interested in Jurickson Profar. They probably want an upgrade on Torreyes, who’s production, especially if pressed into CIF duty, leaves much to be desired. The Yanks could get him on the cheap, probably just with a couple pitching prospects they’d lose in the Rule V anyway. Guys like Feyereisen and Cortes could get the job done for this “fallen from grace” former #1 prospect

First deal done. Rumbelow to Seattle for LHP JP Sears and 17 yr old RHP Juan Then.

Sears is an interesting case. Lefty reliever who struck out 144 in 90+ innings in college then struck out 51 in 27 minor league innings in his debut this year after being drafted in the 11th round. He’s really a one pitch pitcher with a very deceptive fastball that only tops out at 93mph from the left side, but hitters don’t pick it up and it looks like he’s throwing 100. I expect NY to try to sharpen up a slider and see if he flies

Then is a 17 yr old RHP with some upside but long odds to reach it. In his debut in the DSL, the teenager held a sub 3 ERA in 60+IP.

We would have lost Rumbelow for nothing if he wasn’t added to the 40 man as he’d have been an MiLB FA. So we added him to the 40 man and got two arms for him before the 40 man roster crunch is finalized.

Kyle Glaser from BA says that Then was the highest upside pitcher in the entire Mariners organization. That’s insane that we got him for a castoff (albeit pretty goo) reliever. Rumbelow has no shot here, but he’s got big stuff and will likely carve out a solid niche in the Mariners pen

The Yankees have been busy

NYY dealt Ronald Herrera to the Rangers for LHP Reiver Sanmartin. Both of these players have similar top end velocities. They both top out around 92 mph and make their hay with command and a deep arsenal. Herrera made his big league debut this season and is on the 40 man. Sanmartin finished 2017 in A ball and doesn't need protection

NYY dealt Caleb Smith and Garrett Cooper to the Marlins for Michael King and more INTL bonus money. This should push NYY past the Rangers for top INTL slot cache to get Otani.

King was drafted in 2016 and had a successful 2017 in A ball. I don't know his stuff yet

I think the Yankees should dangle Adam Warren to the Astros for Ciolnel Perez and Dellin Betances to the Cards for Flarety and Perez. Ship Ellsbury and cash off to the M's or DBacks. Sign Ohtani. Send Castro off for prospects. Make Andujar the 3B. Headley in a 3B and 1B platoon with Bird and Andujar. Have Ohtani DH a few games and sign Carlos Gonalez to DH and play LF to spell Gardner. Have Fraizer force his way into the majors again. Resign CC to 12 million. Trust our bullpen too.

C: Sanchez

1B: Bird

2B: Torres

3B: Andujar

SS: Didi

OF: Gardner, Hicks, Judge

DH: Cargo

Bench: Torreyes, Headley, Romine, and McKinney (or Cave I prefer McKinney though).

Rotation: Tanaka, Severino, Gray, Ohani, CC

bullpen

Chapman

Robertson

Kahnle

Green, Don't joba this guy. Keep him in the bullpen.

German, I think he'll put up Green numbers in 2018. I feel he'll be our 2nd best reliever next year.

Heller -This spot going to a rotating position.

Shreve.

I do not want them to sign a RP in free agency, we have arms it's just about lining the right guys up. I think the Astros do the Warren deal since their payroll is already near 145 million without adding one. Even with the world series money, can they go past 160 to sign Davis or Holland? Their farm is still stacked and adding a lefty to our system would be nice. I think cards lose out on Stanton and sign Hosmer or moustakas and even one of Davis or Holland and still go all in with another RP like Dellin.

As for coaching staff either the 1B or 3B coach have a slick fielding infielder to help guys like Torres and Andujar. Pena has helped Sanchez a lot and these guys could use somoene like that.

I think we do deal a pen piece, but I think we deal one for another or we deal one to sign another. The one thing we are light on in the upper minors is LH relievers. We have Shreve on the big league roster, but with him being a FB-split-change guy, he has reverse splits. Chapman is the closer, so he won’t be used as a matchup guy. Aside from them, the highest minor league LH reliever is Tarpley, and he isn’t protected from the Rule V and I anticipate that we lose him. We could use a matchup lefty.

I think you’re spot on in dealing Warren. His stock is at its highest and he’s a FA after 2018. I don’t deal Dellin. His struggles with command will get us pennies on the dollar. I’d rather see if he can find the zone. If he can, he’s a relief ace. If he cannot, he’s a mop-up guy. I’d rather have the relief ace potential be realized here.

I absolutely deal Castro. He has had injury issues and consistency issues. He also showed that he can be handled. Miss with the heat on the inside, and he’ll kill you. Sliders down and away and you’ve got him. Judge showed he could lay off after a while. Castro didn’t. He had a rare .300 BA this past year (only 25 guys hit .300 or better) and he has power from 2b, which is also rare. He should fetch a nice return from a team starved for offense. We have TONS of 2b options internally who could improve on his defense and maybe even the offense when all is said and done.

I do not platoon Bird. His bomb off Miller showed me all I needed to see. He stays in against the toughest lefty in the game. If he’s healthy, he’s in the lineup 150 times in 2018. I’d just like to see him get about 20-50 starts at DH.

A platoon of Headley and Andujar makes sense. Headley was great from the left side. Andujar mashes and he could take more than just platoon reps if Headley slides across the diamond 20-50 times to allow Bird a half game off at DH. The deceiving thing about Andujar is most pundits give him s*** for his lack of walks and label him a free swinger. Castro is a free swinger (low BB, high K), but Andujar is more and early count contact guy with power. He rarely K’s, which means he’s putting the ball in play with authority. We need that. We don’t need a free swinger like Castro. We have enough strikeout guys. I’d rather see Andujar grab onto a spot and see what he can do when he’s striking out 60-70 times a season and making consistent hard contact.

I’d almost rather let the fat man walk. We have kids ready. Sabathia is nothing but a place holder, albeit a steady one.

Severino

Tanaka

Gray

Montgomery

Sabathia

Adams, Sheffield and Acevedo in the wings. I can live with that.

So we now have some manuevering to do. After arb, some extra summer dealing cash and holdings for minimum guys, we’ve got around $35 mil to play with before getting concerned. We know Ohtani is out. We know our pitching currently has a hole at either #4 or #5 (however you classify Montgomery).

If trades for pitching aren’t available, I re-sign CC for a season at $10 mil. That leaves about $25 mil to play with. Once the rotation is deemed set, I’d absolutely go all in on Santana. His bat, durability and versatility would be an absolute smash addition to our offense. I know Cashman wants to save his duckets for 2019, and that might be the prudent move with the class pending, but if we are to shore up this team, that’s the move to make

I heard they will try Green as a starter in spring training, there's another option for the rotation
