Han Ram swinging at a fastball a foot outside on an 0-2 count. That's the HanRam we know too well, especially when he then pops up on a grooved fast ball right down the middle.

With all due respect, your fixation with HRam is unhealthy.

Farrell said we needed a good pitching performance and we got one. Two runs, 6 hits and 2 walks is good. With our 8 hits and 8 walks we couldn't come up with more than 1. Hard to hang this one on Hanley as he had a 1 for 3 day with 2 walks. Be interesting to hear from JF after this one. Devers even had two doubles in this one. Time to rethink who plays and possibly time to shake things up. I don't see a lot we could get by bringing up mnor leaguers with the possible exxception of Brentz. By the Sox do need to do something to change the trajectory.

Not sure I agree about all those options--bringing up guys, changing the order again, etc.

To me we just are what we are.

Yeah. He's kind of my whipping boy. He looks and acts like Manny with the long hair and too often inattention, but without those great hitting skills. And guess what, he's paid what Manny was paid--$20M/year--but about 10 years worth of inflation later, which makes a difference.

I have read that Manny studied pitchers and prepared carefully for his at bats, and I suspect that HanRam doesn't. He's the default clean up guy who doesn't clean much up. His OWAR is 0.1, for crying out loud. Last year it was 2.8. This year we really needed him with Ortiz gone and instead we get a guy who doesn't do windows. I've read he has injuries, but Pedroia has played and played well with worse in my opinion. Indeed, he is a year younger than Pedey and can't touch him for value to the team.

All that said, I have to be honest. He's down from last year, but not way down. He didn't ask to bat cleanup, he got the job because Farrell can't find anyone better.

That was one of the sickest losses I've ever seen.

Have you noticed how well Devers is hitting now that he has been dropped down in the order. I kept saying it would make a difference and you kept saying no way. But I'm smiling because it's good you got thru Harvey.

Thats because he is smart and playing for his teams playoff life. Farrell's f... attitude is we'll get em tomorrow. Getting old..

Oh, come on. I agree Showalter was great today, but completely disagree he outmanaged Farrell in any of these three games. He gave Fister the ball and left him in for 7 innings after that 2 run 1st. He brought in Reed and Kimbrel in at the right times.

The problem today was the exact same problem as yesterday--very weak hitting--1 run in 18 innings. In the first two debacles (plus yesterday's 7-0 rout) against the Guardians and Orioles, our starters--Sale, Porcello, and ERod--not only stunk but stunk early before Farrell could rationally do anything.

Ultimately, of course, Farrell will be measured by wins and losses and how the Sox finish this season, and I am fine with that. Plus I did say in the game thread that Showalter's handling of the 6th to preserve a 2-1 lead--he used 4 pitchers that inning, including starter Miley--was something I don't think Farrell would have done. But I will also say that in none of these 4 games has he had an opportunity to save a game. Three straight starters--a Cy Young winner last year, a true ace, and a young lefty who's biggest problem is getting thru the first 2 innings--took all Farrell's options away. All three games were gifts to Francona and Showalter.

There's about 2-4 guys better, 5-6 when Pedey and JBJ get back.

One is Devers.

One is Betts.

We need Devers up 4th, so you can stop drilling HRam in the head.

Funny how just 4 losses makes it seems like everyone now agrees with me about JF.

moonslav, Kimmi, and all you people who think you know how to slot hitters, listen up. I have argued endlessly for like 5 games that Devers should be dropped down in the order. Yesterday he got a double batting 7th I think, and today 2 doubles batting 8th. I'm just like Bo Jackson. I don't know diddly, but I do know baseball.

Put him wherever he's comfortable and having success. If that's farther down in the order, so be it.

Not sure I agree that at bat was so terrible. Every single pitch was a very fast sinking fast ball, and all of them were low--including three balls. To me that's just great pitching because Betts is a good hitter, does not strike out much, and has an OPS over 1.000 with RISP.

Credit too to Showalter who used 4 pitchers in the 6th to hang onto that lead.

No. Just no.

Fister pitch a good game once againn.

Yes, he really did. Fister, Reed, and Kimbrel all did their jobs.

Our offense is so maddening sometimes.

10-1 Yanks, lose, 2 games in the loss column.

I hate it when the Yanks gain ground on us, but the bright side is, we are still in a better position than they are.

7 BB's thank god for the OBP. If you don't hit means s***.

But we got a lot of hits too. They just didn't come at the right times.

If you generate a lot of baserunners, the runs typically follow.

We play the horrible Jays. If we can't win that series.......

I cannot believe we just got swept by the Os at home.

UGH!

If it makes you feel any better, I do not. LOL

4 straight losses. Small sample size. ... But then, so would be 10 or 15 or ... hell ... 20.

0-3 since I moved to college....

If this trend continues it's going to be a long four years for us Sox fans. :(

As I have stated many times before, a team is a reflection on its manager and or GM. This team has been either real good or real bad too many times this year. The one constant is Farrell. I am not full in on DD either. The failure to acquire an veteran impact power hitter when it has been one of the teams biggest needs is a joke. When you have a chance to win this year you do what you have to.

Tough " Player's weekend ". Not only did we get swept , but we had to put up with those dumb nicknames as well. At least we can take solace and find humor with the announce team. Never mind Martin and Lewis , forget Abbott and Costello . We have O'Brien and Salty. The back and forth between these guys is hilarious. Unintentionally , but hilarious nevertheless . We had 8 hits and 7 walks into the 7th inning with no outs.

One run.

15 men on base and one run in basically 6 innings.

I doubt that has ever happened in Sox history.

Uh, he out managed him today. Maybe Buck may have pinch hit or put some guys in motion today if he was managing the sox. When things aren't happening, Farrell just sits there and lets it not happen. He's a good guy, but lacks balls. I would have got tossed or something today just to fire up this team. Maybe you haven't noticed, but a lot of these guys are like drones lately. I hate Buck, but he had his team ready to come here and do damage. They are right back into the wild card hunt. I'm sick of people making excuses for this team. They are what they are and the weaknesses are obvious. We all got too use to Ortiz carrying us and coming up with the huge 3 run blast. So did his team mates. No one has even come close to filling his shoes. I know who could, but news flash, Hanram leading the team with 19 homers is a joke. I don't care what the make up of this team is. DD f.. up and having this drone batting 4th is total crap. The first 2 games of the series were not gifts, they beat our brains in period. It's one thing to lose, but watching a team with so much talent under achieve like this and look life less sucks.

So you're saying a professional athlete sits on the bench. He watches his manager or coach get thrown out, generally for acting like an unprofessional a-hole. And that this professional athlete then says, "Oh yeah! I'm ready to play now."

We're good. Pommy and Sale the next two nights, and then again for the last two in New York this weekend

This team is what it is, which is a pretty good team overall, despite the recent 4 game losing streak.

Buck had the team fired and and ready to play, you say. Why hasn't Buck had his team fired up most of the rest of the season?
