At least he was a cheap dumpster dive unlike Theo's $5 million dumpster dive specials -- Smoltz and Penny.

Ah. I had not thought of that. Probably because I am rational and don't like to throw clumps of money around carelessly.

But among the low or lower priced schlock this is the type of guy you hope to stumble upon.

I'll stick my little guy out and guess that he will be a solid contributor if this team makes a run in the second half.

Of course it won't matter much if this team does not hit up to expectations.

Don't worry as there no doubt be reams of statistics to support his decision.

Maybe Venus is in retrograde or something?

It might be statistics, it might be other information that you are not aware of.

Seriously, give the man some credit.

Farrell pulled Velazquez for Abad with Hosmer and Moustakas coming up. Hosmer had already homered. Abad didn't do his job but it seemed like the right move.

The Royals didn't pull their starter when JBJ went up there after he homered too. And our starter was at 70 pitches.

Their starter has a bit more of a major league pedigree than Velazquez.

It was a debatable move, but I don't blame Farrell for not having a world of confidence in Velazquez.

Last time out, Velazquez filled in for Johnson and only went 3.1 innings and 50 pitches. Last night he went 5.1 and 77 pitches. Anyone want to guess his average innings per start--he had 9--at Pawtucket this year? Answer is 5.1.

Besides, The Sox got thru the 6th inning without giving up any runs. The problem was the 7th inning with Boyer on the mound.

I would have been fine with leaving Velazquez in, but I fail to see a persuasive argument that taking him out after 5.1 innings was such a huge blunder or even that it cost anything.

So, naysayers, please 'splain to me how last night's loss was all about not letting Velazquez pitch a bunch more innings or whatever and not about the dearth of hitting because frankly I'm not seeing it.

Also a new topic. Houston hit two of our guys back to back--Betts, then Pedroia--and both were hurt temporarily. It turns out Pedey was hurt enough to miss a couple of games.

So my question is why was there no outcry on the game thread or since? To me what the Astros pitcher did was malicious or vindictive or both. I do not think those HBP's were accidental.

i think the problem is that the teams were warned after the pedroia beaning. and that was the last game of the series. something tells me that whenver we play the Astros next someone is going to get drilled. and that something is called "baseball".....

You are really on top of your posting game these days, Max.

Finally, a good answer. Thanks.

I don't mind the questioning of the move. However, Farrell is not the clueless idiot that many on here would have us believe.
