Zzzzzzz offense sucks when 5 starters are bench or platoon guys.

Meh. Betts, bogaerts, and Ramirez were 1 for 12. Vazquez and JBJ batted in all 5 runs.

Not that it means much but why was Pablow pinch hitting from the right side in the 9th?

I admit there is still a bunch that I do not understand about this game.

But one look at Pablows splits tells you he sucks big green donkey dicks batting righty.

And that is independent of the pitchers arm side.

Ah well. Got to love a team that does s*** all night and ends the game scoring 4 runs and then a weak hit dribbler.

What a disappointing game. No excuse for not being able to pound Miley to the ground. E-Rod's been pitching great, but the O's are so driven by momentum that it takes one HR to get them going.

No, no, no! Haven't you been reading the posts in the forum? There's no such thing as momentum! What a batter does in any given AB is in no way dependent on what the batter before him did.

...except in the real world where people actually play the game, that is.

Indeed. Ballplayers like me know that momentum is actually a real thing. We had one game we we were no hit through 5 innings, then somebody hit a double off the wall, then we exploded for like 5 or 6 runs. Same pitcher throwing the same pitches...

This offense is an absolute mystery. They cannot hit any SP the majority of the time. They hit into doubleplays at great pace though.

They seems to hit relievers though to pad stats.

It's called pressure. It's pretty easy to coast along riding the wave of success. Once there is a bit of adversity, the pressure can mount and effect the pitcher's capability to focus and locate. There's no stat to look for that, it is real though. You feel it out there on the field

But if momentum is a consistent thing why do we hit into so many DP's and have so many LOB.

Because it's baseball where nothing is consistent. If it were consistent there would never be an out made once things got rolling. But momentum is a factor that can't be discountable just because it's not statistically quantifiable.

Momentum exists, but only in terms of describing what has already happened. It has no predictive quality, be it in a month, a series, a game, or even an inning.

Saying something like Team A is favored to win the series because they have all the momentum would be a fallacy.

On the topic of why the Sox hit into so many double plays, Matthew Kory had a good article on that today. In short, high OBP, low Ks (high contact), and low HRs equals a lot of double plays.
