Pedroia is a pansie. I blame this loss 100% on him.

The throw home would have been an out.

This season has completely changed my view of #15.....

50 games in and this team's still playing inconsistent. They really need to stop this s***** inconsistent play. It's getting late!

Still eatry and we are only 3 games behind the Yankees. Inconsistent but could be worse. If the season ended today were still in the playoffs.

I saw a lot of pretty weak contact on the part of Chicago hitters. He made a bad pitch to Abreu at a bad time. Other than that he was decent. Shelled is not an adjective I would use.

I said that "shelled" part before the game started. It was just a thought. A prediction. Just imagine if XB doesn't make that great double play, but he did. I get it. The velocity was there. The location not so much.

I'm never sure how much of what you post is sarcasm, but I was with a group of friends last weekend and we all - to a man - agreed that Pedey's reputation took a big hit with his,"It's not me, it's them" comment.

I understand that half a dozen guys standing around drinking beer is the ultimate in SSS but when it's unanimous..... :-(

i know i post a lot of sarcasm so even i'm not sure when i'm serious or not. but quite honestly, i meant this post. this was a game when we needed our best players to step up. Listen, i get it...it's only a game at the end of May. but here's the thing...we have been up and down and mostly playing "flat" all season. we then get some mojo going and rip off 6 W's in a row. we lose the finale at home and then hit the road for a long 10 game trip. game 1 of that trip our $31MM ace is making his first start of the season and yes, we need him to gain confidence. we all know it. so for our "dirt dog" dustin pedroia to stumble over the first baseman in his first AB and then take himself out of the game is PUSSIFICATION. i am fed up with this guy. for year's i thought he was a "team first" player. boy, was the wool being pulled over my eyes. NOT ANYMORE. this is twice in 2 months that he has shown his true colors. we needed that W yesterday. for many reasons. Pedroia needed to be a bitch ass baby dik. for his own selfish reasons.

rant over - for now.

Always gonna be somebody hated on, you know that.

I thought Pedroia was the golden goose? He was the heart and the soul of this team? He could never go anywhere else?

He's always had his little band of haters too.

IMO, Pedey is still the spark that makes this team click. His defense is still the best there is. His turn on the DP is unmatched. When he gets hot with the bat, he gets white hot and keys the offense. As for his personality, he can be a dick. I thought he acted like a dick in 2012, but there was the Bobby V is a dick to excuse. This year there was no excuse. But hey, I like these guys because they play well, and he is still very good. Many of them are dicks in their personal lives.

if you are referring to me, i have never hated on him. this is new for me.

#15 has given me two very good reasons this season to change the way i feel towards him.

Slash I'm not going to defend him in the "not me" affair. That whole thing was stupid and he came off as a dick, I guess.

But how in the world can you blame him for what happened yesterday at 1st base?

He did not design that play. He reacted the only way he could. It happened because a AAAA scrub pitcher did not get to the bag in time for a throw by his 1st baseman. Abreu reacted instinctively by sliding into the bag.

It was dumb and unfortunate. How can you put any blame on Pedroia for that? He had no options. He tumbled over a big object and hurt his hand landing hard.

Not his fault at all.

s*** happens.

The play at 1B was 100% Abreu's fault. He could have run over the bag into foul territory or run to the bag, touched it and pulled his foot back while staying in fair territory. He lost control of his body in that slide and ended up in the base path. Pedey had no good place to go.

i hear ya spud. and i'm not blaming pedey for the contact or how that particular play unfolded. what i am questioning is his "toughness". sometimes you have to ignore a boo-boo for the betterment of the team. gut it out and play through the pain. it was his glovehand. he still in the game and there is no doubt the out is made at home. but he was too busy rubbing ben gay on his wrist in the dugout......

Pedroia comes off as an arrogant douche. Even when he was young and in his prime... now that hes older and declining, it makes it harder to deal with. but this is still a huge loss, now we have two black holes in our infield. Rutledge and Marrero are both every day players now? yikes.

also...it's not like his wrist is broken. it's a "sprain". if my 11 year old tried to pull himself from a little league game for a "sprain" i would be appalled.....and call him a wuss.

XRays were negative. He is going for an MRI in Boston.

I have no worries that Rutledge can fill in adequately at 2nd. He plays 2nd as well as most players and he has a good hit tool.

I would prefer a healthy Pedroia, though.

Merrero is fine at 3rd. He is the best glove in that infield now.

And we have seen a recent six game hitting streak where he has brought his OBP up to a blistering .245 or so.

There is hope!:P

the xrays were negative, but so were mike trouts and he's out 6-8 weeks, and it sounds like DL stint is still possible, if not likely

@EvanDrellich

Dustin Pedroia is indeed going to the disabled list. Pablo Sandoval is on his way to Chicago. Second opinion for Pedroia still to come.

It looks like the MRI was also clear:

Considering the history of his left wrist, when Dustin Pedroia exited the Red Sox’ game with the White Sox Monday afternoon after spraining the body part in the first inning, there was some justifiable concern. This was, after all, the same wrist he had surgery on in 2014.

After the game, the Red Sox announced X-rays had come back negative, but Pedroia was still headed back to Boston for an MRI.

But appearing on MLB Network Radio, Red Sox manager John Farrell passed along that the exam showed nothing that would sideline Pedroia for an extended period of time. Pedroia will return to the team in Chicago, at which time a decision will be made regarding whether or not a trip to the 10-day disabled list is necessary.
