the orioles really love kendrick's change up--first a hard double off the wall, then a hard hit dinger over the wall. vazquez should have been calling for more sliders because those were working.

I don't get why this guy was even signed, I understand we need depth but Kendrick is a past his prime s***** pitcher, what is the fascination with signing these guys every year?

it is just about guaranteed that our guys will not swing at the first pitch, that the opposing pitcher will throw a fastball down the middle, and that our guys, now behind in the count, will swing at the next pitch wherever it is.

We sign at least one bum a year -- usually more.

not sure I agree with the notion that taking out a starter in the 4th inning with the score tied at 3 all is the sensible, automatic call some are saying it is. surely the pitcher has some responsibility in all this.

i do agree with the notion than kendrick ain't MLB caliber, but he was almost the only available choice unless you want to start someone from the bullpen. the sox have two starters on the DL, Price and Wright.

Most people were saying walk Machado, not to take out Kendrick.. Kendrick does suck though, thats not a debate. He has a proven track record of suck.

Should have called up Brian Johnson.

Sale is pitching Sunday. They don't know if he's getting suspended. That's why Johnson wasn't called up. It's just a guess.

Kendrick will give the Sox about 0% of winning. He gets rocked a lot in both minors and majors and doesn't miss bats, our offense can't win slugfests.

^ Doesn't remember Beni or Moncada skipping AAA last year.

Oh, I remember Moncada being rushed to the majors, and how that worked out. Benintendi was the best college hitter in the country when drafted and probably should have been promoted more quickly to begin with. Both were older than Devers is now.

I mean, sure, it could happen, but it seems incredibly premature to even be talking about it.

I hope that's the last we see of Taylor, and I do mean LAST. I'll remember him as the guy who threw a pitch every five minutes with nothing on it. Maybe Price will be ready before they expected.

Gotta give this team 40 to 45 games in and see where they at. They have been dissapointing to say the least with the high expectations.

Speier is a dweeb. He knows his baseball though.

Speier is my kind of guy. There's nothing wrong with a baseball dweeb.

Let him disseminate his knowledge in print. He doesn't belong in front of a camera or a mic.

Why not?

I did. Machado did say it was his normal slide. The catcher did say the loss of Gausman in the 2d inning because of a bad judgment by the umpire would have long term effects on the pitching staff for at least 7 or 8 days. No one, however, called Sale an assassin. Machado and others however kept saying how Sale's location--low--endangered Machado's very fragile knees, etc. Machado also said he felt justified going after Boston's cowardly pitchers with a bat but doesn't want to be suspended for a year. I did not exaggerate that practically everyone in Baltimore and on espn think the fact the Gausman pitch was just 77 mph basically makes it a nonissue. ESPN and the Orioles also seem to agree that MLB should never have intervened nor had a verbal meeting with the two managers yesterday afternoon nor given the umpires guidance to be especially alert for maverick pitches. Today the Orioles announcers are repeating a story line from last night that the strike called by the umpire against Jones--a somewhat delayed call--was just completely unwarranted and unduly provocative toward Jones and caused him to react the way he did.

It is probably my interpretation that the fact that Sale threw 98 mph--even though it missed Machado and clearly was intended to miss him--was a vicious act and basically justified any kind of retaliation by the Orioles. I think they believe that but didn't say it quite that way.

I also think the consensus is that Barnes and Sale are vicious and that Farrell is incompetent. Machado is completely innocent and being unfairly singled out by Barnes and Sale and Farrell. Gausman and the other Orioles pitcher who hit Betts are just good solid folk doing their jobs. Showalter is just a good manager doing his job. The injury to Pedroia and his missed games are hardly mentioned and certainly not an issue for anyone with any sense--kind of like when JBJ tripped going around 1B. The racist comments/actions by a few Sox fans are there in the background in case anyone thinks the Sox or fenway or boston has any redeeming value.

I was just f***ing around. I did not mean to put you on the spot nor did I suggest that your recollection was not accurate.

Thanks for all the input, really. It is amazing how things can be spun from just about any angle.

IMO, it would be a panic move. I thought the same about calling up Beni and Moncada last year. It worked with Beni, but I think he's the exception to the norm. It would certainly be an ideal solution if Devers could be called up and save the day at 3B, but it would be a huge mistake to rush him.

Our situation is not dire. There is no need for a panic move.
