Dazzled over 7 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits and a walk while striking ouut seven in his Red Sox debut vs the Pirates. Facing the Tigers often as a member of the White Sox, Sale is 8-7/ 3.05 in 19 starts.

Used high fastballs to coax swings from the young White Sox hitters on Tuesday, tying a Tigers opening day record by striking out 10 over 6 1/3 innings of 2 run ball.

 

 

It should be a good pitcher's duel. In 4 previous head to head match ups, Verlander has the slight edge - Verlander is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA, while Sale is 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA.

 

Xander will be back in the line up today.

 

The bats need to find a way to get to Detroit's awful bullpen.

The Red Sox have the record they do because they've gotten pitching that has at least kept them in the game. Last year, and years prior to that, if they didn't produce 10 runs a game, they weren't winning. I'm sure the offense will come around when this flu bug is gone, and everyone is healthy. But, I don't think they'll hit like they did the previous years. Nor do I think they have to.
