I thought this board hated truck day? I believe Kimmi and I were the only ones excited for it last year.

I love Truck Day for two reasons. It marks the beginning of baseball season (for me, anyway), and I enjoy being a part of a rabid fan base that acknowledges it as an informal holiday.

I've been known to greet my Sox friends on that day with "Happy Truck Day!" :D

That and it comes along right around the time people are experiencing that eclectic Februrary mix of winter fatigue and cabin fever, and it's nice to think of summer sports kicking off soonish.

What's not to like about Truck Day?

Can't wait! Woohoo!

Three days until Truck Day!

Just over a week until pitchers and catchers report!

Stupid Phil says we have 6 more weeks of winter.....

Come on baseball!

Ready for some real sox news has been a boring hot stove season with all the major moves made in one day, and that was almost two months ago.

I just saw Pete Abraham video from Ft. Myers.

Carson Smith is playing long toss! That is a great sign.

Also there were Price, Barnes, Porcello, Bradley, Holt, ans Swihart.

No sign of blubber belly.

He has posted yet another photo ( both on FB ) of Smith playing catch today at Fenway South.

It's not important who has a bigger penis here.

I just hope Smith can be productive.

I really respect the guys who show up to camp early. It's a long enough and grueling enough season as it is, and you always have a handful who have made that extra bit of commitment to the team and to themselves as players.

I very much admire Price and Porcello for opting out of the WBC and focusing on the team instead. I don't fault ERod for wanting to represent his country, but with his knee injury in question, I think that him playing in the WBC is a mistake.

Pats Superbowl today, Truck Day tomorrow!

Does it get any better?

A little off topic, but why are they getting rid of Roman numerals for the Superbowl after this year?

Posted (edited)

Because they're becoming a mess. When they started this it was a few Roman characters and gave the event a bit of class, these days it's really starting to become a lengthy numeral, so they're going to have to switch over eventually, now's as good a time as any.

Besides, the percentage of the population that can accurately decipher a Roman numeral goes down with each passing generation. There will come a point where the vast majority of viewers have no idea what all those letters are under the title, and it might even be here now. It made sense back in the 50's when this stuff was still taught in public schools, but you have to search out how to decipher Roman numerals yourself these days, and it's hard to decide to bother since it just doesn't ever come up anymore. that makes roman numerals inaccessible for most of the population.

Well, if they were going to do away with Roman numerals, they should have done away with them after Superbowl L, , a nice round number, not after Superbowl LI. This is the type of thing that can keep one awake at night.

Personally, I am sad to see the disappearance of Roman numerals.
