Just what we needed. Buch, no walks six k's. Mooky may not need an xtra day off after all. Let's wait and see if the pen works tonight brfore shooting off any cannons. Going into Canada tied ain't bad at all!

Nice win. Need another tonight with Price, then a day off, then 3 in Toronto.

I'm betting the 3 starters in Toronto will be Porcello, ERod, and Buchholz, which would explain the 87 pitches last night. Buch looked confident last night and minimized the walks (0) and the pauses between pitches.

This remains the time of testing. The Jays lost but the Orioles won, and the race for AL East and for playoff berths is as tight as ever.

Pomeranz has been steady for 7 straight starts:

1 ER- two times

2 ER- four times

3 ER- one time

4+ ER- zero times

I doubt they mess with his routine.

Give everybody the one extra days rest and keep the rotation in the same order.

I think the 87 pitches had more to do with his irregular schedule - that was his first start in 2 weeks.

And he was limited in previous starts as well. His previous 3 starts were in order 71, 81 and 94 pitches. His first start after a return to the rotation has been met with a quick hook and not necessarily due to performance.

All in all good night for Clay. Looked ugly there in the 7th but back to back strike outs to rebound.

a grounder that moncada blew and another ground ball base followed by 2K's and a hook. 6.2 / 1 ER / 0BB. Tired clay on a clay roll. right to a parade.....

wright better learn how to pitch the 7th....

if Barnes gave up a 3 run job this thread would be 27 pages of how JF sucks for the "quick hook". if Clay stays in and gave up a 3 run dong this thread would be 27 pages of how JF sucks for "leaving him in too long". instead it's just 3 pages because apparently JF didnt Eff up the W.

Clay is my one game playoff SP. yup. i said it.

Wright isn't pitching again this year.

To me, Clay needs to be eased back into longer outings. 87 pitches is actually more than I would have expected him to go. I think Farrell has done a good job managing Buchholz this year.

we will need a 7th inning guy in 2017.

I wouldn't have him be a setup guy though. I'd rather him be the long reliever/spot starter guy than an inning here or there.

It's a shame. He was our best 1st half starter.

When you think about all the question marks this rotation had going into the season, and the fact that Buch and Kelly sucked royally out of the gate and then we lose our best starter, yet still our rotation now looks solid top to bottom.

WOW!

WOW!

The question marks were:

Will Price adjust to Boston? It took a while, but he's there now.

Will ERod come back healthy? Same as above.

Will Porcello pitch more like first half of 2015 or second half? Looks like the first half was the fluke, not the second half.

Will Buchholz stay in the rotation? He did not, but he's fighting to re-earn his spot.

Will Kelly stay in the rotation? Nope, he's gone.

If either Kelly or Buchholz falter, can Wright be serviceable? Even with his recent injury, he was still the best "5th starter" in the league.

Thankfully, Pomeranz is also pitching like he's still in San Diego.

also, i found it strange that we had a pitcher on the basepaths last night and he didnt hurt himself. weird!

Was he a pinch runner?
