If I'm a Cubs fan I'm pretty happy with the job he's doing. It's been a while since they've had this much excitement.

Theo has done an excellent job rebuilding that franchise. Anyone who says otherwise is just expressing sour grapes towards either Theo, the Cubs, or both.

Especially after the 2 last place finishes and a 5th place finish (thanks to the Astros being in the NL). He managed to lose 101 games in one of the years. In the Cubs long rotten history, they had lost 100 + games only 2 other times -- 1962 and 1966. In the three year stretch, from 2012 -2014, the Cubs lost 286 games -- more than any other 3 year period in their history.

That's what happens when you tear down a team and rebuild.

I am wondering what you would think of this move if Dombrowski had made a comparable deal for Chapman?

You seem to agree with the idea of being all in, regardless of the effect on the farm system.

Then you read me wrong. i would like the idea of getting Chapman if I were a Cubs fan, but it was an obvious overpay. Theo is a terrible negotiator.

The deal for Kimbrel was for 3 years -- not a 2 month rental -- and you thought that was an overpay. How would compare the 2 moves?

Teams with a big market and resources of the Cubs and the Red Sox should never have to do a full tear down and rebuild.

Since when? He's always been awful with free agent acquisitions, but extremely successful in trades.

Next they should trade Beltran for some prospects. Then package all of these kids plus whoever they can muster into a deal for Chris Sale. This is a retooling not a rebuild!

You didn't answer my question. If Dombrowski made this move for the Sox, you would be singing Dombrowski's praises. You might say that it was an overpay, but you would also say who cares? But since Theo made the move, he is a terrible negotiator.

I have already stated that I am surprised Theo made this deal, that I would be upset with it if I were a Cubs fan, and that it is not one of Theo's finer moments. I can't be much clearer than that.

If he gets the cubs a parade the dude should go down as the greatest GM of all time....

No doubt. Even without the parade, he will go down as one of the greatest GMs of all time.

I was actually thinking that the Yankees might do something similar to this. I don't think it will happen, but I also wouldn't rule it out completely.

We won't go full on rebuild, ever. We will see which kids can play and which cannot. We have Refsnyder, Sanchez, Judge, and Severino MLB ready. We have the wave behind them getting close. Gleyber is now the lead dog in the system and he's AA ready. We're close to building something especially with Didi going nuclear. Tanaka and Betances are young and we have a pretty young rotation sans CC. We need some young, all star level talent. You either grow it or trade for it these days. We'll start with growing it, and if the situation arises, we can deal for it

Rumors are saying they won't deal Beltran or Miller.

Welcome to Bud Selig's Twilight Zone. Parity + extra wild card keeps more teams' hopes alive much longer.

One of the beat writers said the Nats offered Giolito straight up for Miller. Cash said he needed more. I get the greed, but if you're holding onto him for a playoff run, you're god damn delusional. We scored 2 runs in our last 2 games and this was with momentum and urgency. We're 4.5 out of a playoff spot, but also have two teams in front of us who are also on the outside looking in. This team isn't good enough to gain 5 games AND outpace one of the teams ahead of us who will invariably go on a run (Don't sleep on Houston, they're the best team in baseball since May 1).

So they will deal Miller if the haul is big enough.

Anyone is available technically. I am sure the Angels would deal Trout if you offered Betts, Bogaerts and Bradley too. It is a question of realistic expectations. Getting the top pitching prospect in baseball for a reliever is a significantly good get. If that isn't enough, then my bet is they aren't moving him

And maybe he has a right to be. My hope is that he realizes our situation and is able to deal off parts while they are still worth something. McCann is a name out there. Gardner too. Obviously Beltran and Nova are out there as they are rentals for the most part. I want to enter prospect acquisition mode. I don't mean to become a 5 year project, but the more prospects we get, the better chance we hit on some and can deal others away before they turn into pumpkins. We cannot rebuild our roster like we had in years' past. The FA market this offseason is upsettingly bad.

The fire sale kicks off today. Miller to the Guardians for Fraizer a 5 tool outfielder, ranked as the 24th best prospect and Sheffield, a low 90s lefty, and two others not known. I hope one of them is Aiken or Clevinger.

Yankees grab Clippard from the DBacks. I'm guessing it's for somoene like Ben Gamel to clear up some of the outfielders in the upper levels.

Heller is an intriguing pickup. Plus slider, 100mph heat and dominating the upper levels. He might slide right into our own now and with any luck, turn into a back end reliever. Feyereisen is another high end potential reliever. Seems the plan was to try and replace Miller long term in this deal while grabbing two high end blue chippers as well in Frazier and Sheffield. It's an insane price to pay for a reliever, really, f***ing insane

There is no point in having a shutdown pen when your offense stinks and your rotation cannot get a lead past the 6th inning. We needed to rebuild and we used two relievers to vault our system into the top 10 at least. Doesn't hurt that our first round pick is absolutely killing it either

Rumors swirling about dealing McCann to the Braves. They are trying to contend for next yr with their new park being built. We should eat the whole damn contract and get something good. We have the #2 catching prospect in baseball ready at the AAA level. Time to deal him off and ascend Sanchez to the starting spot

So now that the bullpen is no longer the Yankees' strength, what is? I'd go with the stadium vendor who sells cheesesteaks AND garlic parm fries.

Hahahahahahahahahaha!11!!1!

Miller is a good one but you still have Betances.
