How was he even still available? I've had JBJ for about a week.

Guess it depends how deep your league is, on ESPN is ownership rate is only 50% , I dropped Puig for him

Now a part of me is hoping he stops hitting so well.

Lmao, believe it not I like you despite being a Sox fan, you never fail to make me laugh.

Would be nice if Vazquez could become a decent hitter, with how good he is defensively, anything at the plate is gravy.

Don't you just love it when the bat works too? I smile every time there's someone on first, that snap throw Vaz has must have every base runner itchy. Incredible guy... and his arm, if JF is to be believed, isn't 100% yet!!!

The average MLB catcher hit .238/.302/.376 last season (and roughly the same so far this year), so just being league average for his position isn't a high bar for Vazquez to clear. He may well be better than that, but as long as he does his usual thing behind the plate and gets a hit once in a while, that's enough for me.

Hi JF ... (Don't take that the wrong way )

Right now Vaz is playing a tick above that, so .... .241/.290/.670 and I think he can pick up some. Not worried if he doesn't ...

Not to nit pick but his average is a tick above, his OBP is average and his SLG is a tick below. His OPS is a tick below. It's so close effectively he's average. But the average back up is well below average bringing those numbers down which is actually a tricky subject because the typical starting catcher doesn't play as much as the regular position player so it may be kind of hard to define what an average starting catchers playing time is so what do I know??? but I'd say Vasquez is a below average starting catcher offensively.

I'm fine with that in this lineup and with his defense...and some of his hits have been during clutch times so I'm very happy with what he's done so far. And if he gives us more? then awesome!

Vazquez has always looked dumpy to me, but there is no denying is talent and training behind the plate. Forget the arm and the framing of pitches, I like the way he prevents wild pitches and fields bunts. That guy is focused and mobile on every pitch, and he has good instincts. All that said, I think his hitting will improve even though I'm fine with where he is now.

For me, the catching position is all about defense and handling the pitching staff. Anything that a catcher provides offensively is gravy. Vazquez' light bat might be an issue if the rest of the line up were not so good, but obviously, that is not the case. This line up is good enough to hide a weak bat in the #9 (or 8) hole. I'm guessing most AL teams are getting similar production from their "weak link" in the line up.
