Chris Young just boosted his average 30 points with that double. I don't care about Young at all, but that right there should show you how little he has played. People need to be patient.
The guy stinks.

lol. he must get murdered in the poker games on the team flights. he has no poker face.

He doesn't think he needs a poker face ... he has that outathisworld curve. :P

I have to say, while he's wearing thin on me, tonight was far better ....

I was driving to home when suddenly an alert displayed in my phone saying CWS 2 BOS 0, and I said, this is going to be one of those long nights for my Sox. Buch settled down and the rest is history. Great win against a very tough team.

If Buch give us two more months of this, call it deal.

If Papi didn't wreck one of Rondon's pitches for a do ahead Home Run, the post mortem on this game would have been about how another ace lefty dominated us. Young needs to step up and damage some of these top lefties. He has looked helpless against top lefties. Yesterday, he managed to get a hit against a lefty -- unfortunately it was against a journeyman bag of trash -- Zach Duke. Young needs to step it up.

Agree 100% Bill Belichick's mantra... "Do your job" needs to be sunk into Young's head. He was brought here to do one job: pound LHP. Right now he is making us want to pound our heads against a brick wall.

I've said already on another thread that he should be given more time......however, the more I think about, he's a backup player......we're not talking a full time player here. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would LOVE a chance to do what Young's job is supposed to do waiting in the wings. I'm holding out hope for Castillo......I know......"what has he done so far King?!?!".....but I still think the talent is there. At this point I think it's in his head. He's still young, has speed, plays a decent LF.....and he probably can't do any worse than Young! Why not??

Why does this fall on Young? There were five other righty bats in the lineup last night--Betts, Bogaerts, Pedroia, Rutledge, and Vazquez--and three good lefty bats (Ortiz, Bradley, Shaw). I am not defending Young at all. Indeed, he does not impress me at all when he just stands at the plate looking at three called strikes. But he is still just 1 of 9 and hardly the most important 1. The alternative to Young is probably Castillo, but so far Castillo has not shown much on offense or defense.

And how could anyone complain that Ortiz had a great night with 3 rbi's, including the key 2-run dinger? Right now he leads the team in rbi's, but there are several others who are knocking them in as well because the Sox have a pretty deep lineup this year even though Young hasn't contributed much to it.

You know who else looked helpless? PEDROIA.

He has not been helpless for too many games. Young on the other hand has not been useful at all.

You can't mean that. Individual games or at bats notwithstanding, he has been great so far this year and anything but helpless. His OPS for April was .846. However, as you imply, his OPS in 15 at bats against lefties this year is a horrendous .266.

So he HAS looked helpless then? He had a really horrible at bat after the Papi HR. I'm not worried about his future performance against LHP though.

Overall, Pedroia is in the midst of a strong season. His poor performance against LHP is a blip. Young's main purpose is to hit LHP. He hasn't hit LHP, and he can't hit RHP. If he doesn't hit LHP, he serves no purpose on this roster.

Ok, so he has looked bad against LHP then so far? Couldn't this also be a blip for Young?

No, because Pedroia has a record of success against RHP. Young does not. Young was signed as a specialist of sorts-- an OFer who is supposed to rake against LHP. He doesn't have the luxury of settling in for 100 ABs imo. It is like signing a left pitching specialist who can't get lefties out. He's washout. You don't wait for the guy to get 50 innings under his belt before you pull the plug on him. Specialists don't have much margin for error. That is the nature of the role. And he is being paid very well to play part time.
