Horseshit. He left a lot of pitches up and didn't give up 5 runs in 6 innings, only 4. He was good enough. Don't play the what if game with me or I'll play the "what if he didn't leave a lot of pitches up" game with you....

That game was vintage Porcello second half..... just ok enough. And I'll take it.

Winning this division isn't going to be a masterpiece, it's probably more like a Rocky movie.

I am not playing the "what if" game. Some people here thought that he only made a few mistakes that hurt him. I was just making the point that he left a lot of his pitches up in the zone. His pitches were up throughout the game.

OK. In the first three innings he made quite a few mistakes. He looked pretty dang good after that. He also didn't get a few low calls the first few innings.

I want to call that performance what it was, and how it ended. 4 runs in 6 innings.

My take on it was he didn't look sharp cy-young material which he never will. He gave Bautista and a few others the same homerun pitch multiple times, and still escaped with 4 runs........... Lets call him Rick "Houdini" Porcello. And for the love of all things good he should keep the stupid ball down.

But his line was his line. And that's what we need to expect from him. And that will do, until it doesn't.

Buch and Porcello are the real issues so far..... considering only being one game and all...

i'll take a win anyway we can get it, and i fully expected him to give up a couple of long balls. It is just surprising to me that since we got him, his sinker has been a real stinker. The guy used to live low in the zone when he was a Tiger. He hasn't done that with the Sox, not even in the second half of the season last year.

This is actually what we are here for...... this is the fun part.............. this is the talk we would have if we were drinking beers at a bar together........ this is the good stuff.....

Exactly. It would not be The Rogue State if we did not discuss these things.

Overall, it is way too early to say that the Sox are big winners or big losers this season.

So far, though, they have been fun to watch.

Lastly, the Sox are not the only team in the division with questionable starting pitching.

True. But he did seem to have better command in the later innings.

Down the road, and based on what I saw last year, I see Kelly as the one who can solidify himself and hone in towards success. It seems to me that he is too hard on himself. If he were to just relax and pitch, he can be okay, if not good, for that exact reason: velocity. He can work on his command, that's no problem.

Command is literally the problem. If every high velocity pitcher could just "work on his command, no problem" we wouldn't have all those guys with great stuff but crappy command flaming out.

Problem I have with him is that I over estimated his potential. If I keep what he can do in perspective with respect to what his contract extension says he ought to do, I am ok with him. He is durable and solid for a #4 guy. take what we get out of bucholtz and Kelly but I'm done visualizing anything from those two. A healthy E-Rod comes back and we are going to be entertained.
