Re: Miley's rant - I don't view that as competitiveness or fire, I view that as selfishness. And I'm a little disappointed in Farrell. Certainly you don't throw guys under the bus, a la Bobby V, but there;'s nothng wrong with saying 'Look, Wade didn't have it tonight. He felt like he could turn it around but I was concerned that we didn't want to get further behind'. Something like that gets the point across without really throwing him under the bus. Maybe he kicked his ass in the locker room, because I noticed Miley did come back. And Miley has actually pitched okay the last few starts before this stinker. And I do give the Sox credit for coming back. I sure like Holt batting behind Pedroia, when Pedey gets on Holt always seems to get a hit to move him along. And Hanley gutted out an aching knee. But there are too many holes in the line-up right now.

When does E-Rod pitch again? ;-)

I am mojo-less. I have no mojo.:(

The first 45 seconds of this seems quite similar to starting a game thread this year.

The Red Sox are really bad because they’ve made some bad moves. It all started with Lester. He would have taken lesser money to stay here. But, they insulted the guy. Then when he got frustrated with their blatant insults, they trade him away. That ended all hoped of him ever coming back here.

What they got back for him was actually good in Cespedes. A broken clock is right twice a day. He is hitting 300, with 9 home runs this year. Who wouldn’t want that on this team right now?

But, Ben has to counter a good move with at least two bad moves. So, he traded a good outfielder away for Rick Porcello: a guy who had one pretty good year. Porcello is no more then a 4th man in a rotation. But, let’s give him 80 million dollars before he pitches one game for us. Let’s not bother seeing if he can build on a good year last year or that he can even pitch in a big market like Boston. Let’s not consider he could be like A.J Burnett and only able to pitch well in a less stressful market.

Oh, no, we’re not done yet. We need to make this rotation really laughable. Let’s go get Justin Masterson. A guy who was so bad, Cleveland didn’t even want him and Wade Miley, the man who had two good years. But, in 2014, he was awful.

Nobody should have expected this to go any different than it has gone. The front office went out and filled a rotation with 4th and 5th rotational pitchers and tried to fix our offense with power instead of players who get on base.

Well, I can't put it better. This is pretty much what happened.

Isn't he a professional baseball player? He is paid to do the job, and very well btw, no more, no less.

So keeping Cespedas was a good idea when he said that he did not wish to play here?

Okay. Got it.

Manny never wanted to be here. Thank goodness that we couldn't give him away until 2008. BTW, the offense has really never had that fear factor since he paired up with Big Papi. They were a wrecking crew. They made opposing pitchers pay.

I think it is fair to think that a lot of professional players regardless the sport are not happy in their current teams. But once again, they are professionals.

I'd rather have Cespedas for a year then waste money on a 4th in the rotation guy.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying that yielding Porcello ( and subsequently lavishing him with $20. mil/yr "unproven" ) was the best situation.

I am not a huge fan of Cespedas as you all know. But when he said that he was not likely to return to Boston in 2016 he pretty much punched his ticket out of town. That is on him. The clowns in the FO only played salvage after that.

And, there is no way in hell Cespedas can be compared to Manny.

Manny was a special talent even with his "quirks". At no point in his career has Cespedas shown that he would provide anywhere near the production and even value that Manny did.

Cespedas may be a professional baseball player. But that does not mean that he would have acted professionally while in Boston. That was obvious immediately when he refused or "declined" to play right field upon arrival.

I wish that the Sox had done better homework on the guy. Maybe they could have gotten more or better for 1/2 season of Lester.

In any case, it's milk over the dam at this point. Just more moves that have not worked out, unfortunately.

Porcello is not the problem. They f***ed around with his approach, when they said all offseaon long that they got him because pitchers with his approach were exactly what they were looking for. Wat?

It was not my intent to compare Cespedes to Manny. Manny was incomparable. I was using the example of Manny to illustrate that a player can perform even when he hates living in the city.
