On another board earlier this afternoon I officially threw in the towel on the season----and knew my call was on the money when the team once again for the 15th time this season came back from at least a two run deficit to TIE but not win. How many times the other way? Someone said six but it has been four times. If that doesn't capsulize this season nothing does.......and Drew reverted back to his normal self. Let's simply cheer when we win a game guys and gals because that's all we're going to be able to cheer for. Meanwhile out here in sunny So. Cal the Dodgers are in first place, the Angels are definitely headed to the WC if they don't win their division and I'm ready to start hitting something.

Hey Cherington, if you are really in charge, and from what some of my Boston area friends tell me you're being pecked at by Lucchino, but if that I false it is time to back up the truck. It is time to g et rid of excess garbage and go with the kids. If you can't sell the bums then just release them.

I think this plus the cubs series is enough for the FO to make the seller moves

They aren't selling any of their big names. If they move anyone, it will be Peavy/Gomes to clear room.

Lester is the second best starter available, and Koji is the best reliever available. No reason not to pull in prospects for those guys.

In addition to Peavy and Gomes, I would imagine Drew, AJ, Ross, Doubront and all relievers besides Tazawa should be available for the right price. I keep mentioning it, but the Red Sox do have a lot of guys they can probably move at the waiver deadline to desperate teams.

I agree. Lester + Uehara is a pennant changing trade for a contender. We should get top prospects in return, but they won't do it.

Two years ago, the Red Sox had a better team and still traded away key players. I trust Ben to not get overly sentimental when it comes to dealing key players for franchise altering prospects.

So... The Sox are 10 games below .500 for the first time all year. I believe I declared that I wanted to make a GT if this feat was ever accomplished.

No can do Thunder. Tell you what -- when the Red Sox are mathematically eliminated you have my permission.

I wonder if Oakland was contacted before they made the Cubs deal.

They wanted someone who they can control more than a year. Lester is a FA.

But still...'Lester + Uehara is a pennant changing trade for a contender', and the A's-Cubs trade was a 2014 all-in trade for the A's.

Sorry guys but Im encouraged by todays game. Lately the offense has been picking up and its the pitching that has let us down. This tells me that the talent is there we just have to get on the right page. We have to stop pulling the chord and get that lawnmower running.

I agree, but it's aggravating when you lose after scoring two of your highest run totals of the season, 9 on Wednesday, and 6 yesterday.

But think about it. We've tried everything and nothing has worked. The only thing that can counter the bad luck of the Sox this season is the bad luck of Thunder. I say a Thunder GT is worth a shot.

That's my logic exactly. It may only help us.

Peavey has looked decent for the past two starts. Today he did his job again but did not receive any run support.

Maybe this is good in a way. It may make it easier to move him if he's looking like he is pitching well enough to win. The Sox bought him last year. Somebody should want him this year too.

There aren't too many positives to talk about after this loss.

However, Bradley made two more great - spectacular throws to the plate in this game. One hop ropes to the plate and dead-on accurate. He made a throw like this sometime within the last week too.

Say what you want about him being worthless offensively, he is a lot of fun to watch in center field.

There is plenty to talk about even if the Sox season is a disaster.

Most of it centers on speculation of what will be done by the Sox brass going forward.

Sell! Sell! Sell!

New idea: Trade Koji, and Lester for some top notch prospects, and pool them together with WMB, Doubront, and one or two other pieces to Miami for Stanton.

Resign Lester in the offseason, and the team has very good pitching again, and a reinvigorated offense. Add a few free agents -- lots of relief help unfortunately -- and this team is in very good shape.

Best of all, the FO gets around the problem of being too sell-happy and losing fan interest because they just got motherfriggern Giancarlo Stanton.

Wow, this team is soo dead that it has killed all discussion about them.

While no one could see the 2013 team do what it wound up doing, I would bet dollars to donuts that no one could envision the 2014 being as rotten a team as it is right now. When you discuss the team it is very hard to be positive now because there is very little to be positive about. Fifteen times this season we've come from two or more runs behind in a game to TIE it only to lose late in the game or in extra innings. That is pure crappy baseball and a pure crappy team. How many times have we reversed course under those circumstances? FOUR!!!!!. Nothing speaks volumes more than that pathetic record, but before we go on any further we have to ask ourselves now that we are out of it (and we most certainly are) who is actually pulling the strings and running the show. Is Cherington still the master of his office or has Lucchino and his half-ass sidekick Werner injected themselves once again in baseball operations.

There is no doubt that there are at least a half-dozen players on the team who need to go like yesterday and three or four we might get something for in trades. And it is becoming apparent to me that we have done a terrific job of screwing our young players by over-hyping them, misusing them or not using them once they are brought up. Here is where John Henry has to come out of his semi-annual slumber and put people in their right places and have a delineation of authority where their talents belong---that is if Lucchino has, now for the fourth time in his reign, interfered in baseball operations for which they doesn't know s*** from shinola. If I'm wrong about Larry, then it is up to Cherington to start pulling the trigger and at least start the process whereby we might be a better team next year and instead of coming back from a deficit to TIE, actually win most of those games.

As I said to 700 Hitter--it depends who is actually running baseball operations and how much power Cherington really has if it is him really in charge.
