The Cubs are well entrenched in last place again on a pace to lose 93 games. I guess that Theo's 3-5 year plan is now just a 5 year plan, if he lasts that long.

The Chicago Cubs have the 29th best offense in the league, with an average .663 OPS. Jake Arietta has a 4.84 career ERA.

On the other hand, the Red Sox are 20th in the league with a .693 OPS, and Jake Peavy has a 4.93 ERA this year, and doesn't have a win since April 25th.

My guess? This game will be a battle of the bullpens, and Anthony Rizzo will hit atleast one home run. Sox win 6-5 in the 10th.

Arrieta has been very hot lately, and Peavy looks like a washed up pitcher. If we get into their pen by the 7th inning we will win the game. I think Pedey has turned the corner and Betts will inject some life into the offense. I am looking forward to some renewed energy on the field.

I am not happy that Peavy will start yet another game.

This reminds me of watching Tim Wakefield at the end of his career.

Wake at the end was torturous to watch. He couldn't get anyone out and he could no longer field his position.

Since Mookie Betts has been called up to the majors, the Red Sox are 2-0 against contending teams, 2-0 against AL East Opponents, have averaged 5 runs a game, and have a team ERA of 3.00.

Mookie is going to triple into the RF corner and bang a double off the Monster tonight and Bradley's days with the big club will be numbered.

This should be an easy series.

With this years Sox nothing has been easy.

Sure, if the entire team hits consistently more runs will score and more wins will result.

Many people are acting as if the Sox have turned some corner because of a series win in NY.

Not much has changed!!

I hope that Peavy can do his job a lot more effectively tonight. If he can keep the damage to 3 or less runs and go a solid 6 innings the Sox may prevail.

Of course if the Sox batting order comes out smoking it may not even matter that much.

GO SOX!!!!

AJ vs Arietta is 4-5 with 2 HR and 2 BB, so of course he gets benched. Although Ross is 2-2 with a HR, and Arietta is a much improved pitcher this year, so those stats may not mean anything. Still, I'd prefer AJ tonight. And Peavy sucks as much with Ross catching, so that's not a factor.

Ted, Wakefield and Varitek were both kept around three seasons too long. Jason was useless by mid-June and had become more of a complainer than a team captain, always moaning for playing time he did not deserve or earn---a far cry from the leader and clutch player he was before 2008. As for Wakefield he had become somewhat selfish as well and getting that win record was of more importance to him it seemed that the health of the ball club. And don't think those two retired voluntarily. They both came to ST in 2012 and were hoping for a contract and Valentine, in one of the smarter things he did, said no thanks, there was no place for them. Unable to sign with anyone else before that Spring they decided to retire. Some guys just don't know when it is time to hang them up, and I really think that had Tito still been manager they might have both been still playing in 2012---but that is just my opinion.

This should be an easy series.

For God's sakes NB, please don't say that. The last poster who claimed a series was going to be cinch saw us get our asses handed to us. For the Red Sox this season there is no easy series and I would caution you not to underestimate the Cubs. Please don't do that.

good job by Peavy working around the misplay by Betts.
The misplay. Lol! Most CF's don't catch that ball. And if it doesn't get caught it is going to be a double.
