His ERA went up to 0.83

clearly once it reaches 1.00 we're doom.

Don't look now, but the Red Sox are only 6.5 games back, and 4 back on a wild card spot.

I am still a strong believer in the one-more-bat theory.

And a very hard road trip ahead of them. Let's hope this doesn't trip them up.

It looks like the Red Sox will miss Sonny Gray in the 4 game set against Oakland, and Seattle is pretty mediocre this year. They're also getting Victorino back which will help the outfield.

I agree with the one more bat theory. Add a productive bat to the lineup, and it will have a cascading eFfect throughout the lineup.

When will Victorino be joining the club? Also, was that our first series sweep of the season?

@ESPNBoston: Victorino expected back vs. Oakland or Seattle http://t.co/KVBtKHqmRA

And didn't they just have two back to back sweeps a few weeks ago?

Yep, I forgot about those sweeps. That happened while I was away on vacation with little internet access.

I think you need another vacation so the Red Sox can go on another run. Take one for the team... :)

Not worthy of a new thread. However, did any of you see the crap in today's Boston.com about Big Poopie complaining about an error being called on Joe Meaur (sp ) instead of a hit for Ortiz?

What a loudmouth self oriented, narcissistic, egotistic douche nozzle Poopie is.

He is all upset that he has been getting a raw deal by scorekeepers in Boston. Boo f'in hoo!

As if 2-3 of such calls will noticeably effect his season BA or OBP. And who cares?? ( By the way, it sure did look like a hit. )

I'll tell you big Poopie what we will all notice. How about raising your BA, OBP, OPS, and Slugging stats up to career averages and help to lift your team onto that huge, strong back of yours????

I'm fully aware of the contributions this guy has made to the Sox. Great!!!

How about building on your legacy by continuing to help make your team competitive again? The true great players in sports history would.

Fraud.

Ortiz is a whiner, and he always has been. He has complained about his contract every year for the last five years, and that isn't an exaggeration. I can think of atleast two other occasions where he has complained about scoring decisions by umpires. He's also complained about not having protection in the lineup, and losing Manny.

But until you can reverse the grand slam last October and his World Series numbers, I do not give a damn about these minor incidents. His bat has spoken much louder than his words.

I suspected that at least one person would "defend" Poopie.

Again, I really do not care what he has done in the past. He's a big name, big money athlete that is paid to produce getting extra base hits, homers, rbi. He is not doing as much as he should be expected to do NOW. He is a crybaby. Maybe David Price was correct. Poopie sees himself as bigger than the game. I don't know. But he sure thinks that he is more than what he is. No matter how many "clutch" and memorable moments he has brought to the team.

Do you know one of the things that I like about Ortiz besides his unbeleivably potent bat and clutch ability that we have ridden to 3 World Championships is the fact that he is so authentic. He doesn't give canned sanitized answers like many athletes are schooled to do. You know the standard answers that Derek Jeter gives. In 18 years, Jeter has never said a single interesting thing. Ortiz speaks his mind. Sometimes it creates controversy-- like in September 2011 when he questioned why Aceves didn't get a chance to start. Everyone else was wondering the same thing. Sometimes it makes him look selfish like questioning a scoring decision or negotiating his salary in public. Sometimes he just makes you cringe like when he beloowed "this is our bleepin city!" It's all part of who he is. There is no phoniness about him , no public face and private faces. He is authentic. He is also a great giver of his time to the community and charitable causes. He's definitely one of the good guys -- a rare thing in professional sports at his level of accomplishment.

Make that two Spud. Really? Are you f***ing kidding me? With what he has done for this team since 2003 who cares???!!! I know I don't.

No offense but I could never share your disdain for Papi. He'd have to commit a real crime for me to turn on him.

I'd rather have someone like Ortiz as a teammate than Jeter. At least I know he's going to tell me the truth and not sugarcoat anything.

How do you know Jeter is like that with his teammates? You don't. Jeter doesn't draw attention to himself in the media like Papi does. Yes, he is authentic, but he is also a diva and a bitch at times.

Well f***ing said. Thanks for sticking up for him, surprised you had to.

Huge road trip, we need 6-7 wins to get anything close.

I did it for three games station---time to let someone like mvp or VA or maybe you take a crack at it. Just got back from a day at the beach, and this old guy can still belly board. My granddaughter kept asking me to show her how. Hell, the wind was blowing like a hurricane but the water was actually very warm. Had a blast. Now will take a nap. I really hope that Jake Peavy can finally throw a gem of a ballgame. This is a crucial trip and Jake needs to start contributing.....and it would be swell if a few of the guys pound out some hits tonight.
