Masterson's xFIP of 3.96 suggests that maybe he has been getting a bit unlucky lately, BUT his bb/9 rate has inflated to a career high 4.41. That does not bode well against a team that can take walks. I think this is not going to work out very well for him.

Masterson has also gone back to not being able to get out a left-handed batter to save his mother's life, which had always been the knock against him. After holding left-handers to a .698 OPS last year and taking a step towards ace-dom, they're teeing off on him to the tune of a .934 (!) OPS this season. Expect a lineup stacked with lefty batters and a whole lot of laboring for Justin.

I went to look the same stat up on yahoo, and it had a .322/.444/.401/.793 line. What the heck is up with Yahoo sports statistics nowadays?

But absolutely, Masterson has always had a hard time getting out lefties. Ortiz will launch a couple here.

I always have nice things to say about Masterson and Francona.

But tonight I want the Sox to pound the Guardians into submission.

The Sox put up crooked numbers and the Guardians learn that it is John Lackey that encompasses their doom.

GO SOX!

When I left for vacation, the Red Sox were in the midst of a 10 game losing streak and looking completely hapless. Now they are on a winning tear. What is the streak at 6 or 7? When I have checked in, I have noticed Bogaerts tearing the cover off the ball and Holt hitting like Wade Boggs. What a surprise he has been with the bat. I have noticed some wildly unorthodox lineups with A.J. Batting third on at least one occasion. Most recently, I saw that Rubby came up and mowed down batters for 7 innings in his first start, and Cecchini got called up and batted 3rd in a game. That one really made me do a double take. What was the corresponding move when he got called up? It's why I love baseball. You never know what is going to happen.

Baseball has always been the 'wackiest' most unpredictable of the major sports. I think it's even moreso now, with the moves by MLB that have increased parity, and the constant reshuffling of teams' rosters.

Mike Carp I think. Broken foot.

Hard to tell exactly with all the moves lately, but they've been working.... RDLR was very impressive - he's a big dude.... Holt continues to make his case for dumping Herrera shortly (although the latter had a good games) and here's hoping Pedey is okay.... Just hope there isn't an emotional let-down vs Tribe. The games against Tampa Bay were certainly extra-bitter, and it's hard to get mad at the Guardians especially with Tito there....

I do not dispute anything you have said Gomes. With all of the talk of bitterness and rivalry with the DEVIL Rays over the last few days, I have to laugh because I've seen several instances of fellowship between the "Rival" players during the games. Smiling, joking, laughing, pats on the back and on the shoulder. That kind of stuff.

Even with blowhard Papi's declaration of war and "it's on", I think that most of the players get along and want none of this hostility crap. Maybe I'm wrong?

And, I fully agree with you about not being able to get mad at the Guardians especially with Tito there. That and the fact that, well, it's Cleveland. :)

What happened to Pedroia? Why did he miss a game?

Were you in a Third World Country during your vacation? Jeez! Ha ha! He hurt his hand. He's fine. He got tossed early last night for yelling at an ump over a call.

Sounds like a Ten Game Losing Streak Baseball Vacation to me.

Red Sox starting lineup:

1. Holt B, 1B

2. Bogaerts X, 3B

3. Pedroia D, 2B

4. Ortiz D, DH

5. Pierzynski A, C

6. Gomes J, LF

7. Sizemore G, RF

8. Drew S, SS

9. Bradley J, CF

Guardians starting lineup:

1. Bourn M, CF

2. Cabrera A, SS

3. Brantley M, LF

4. Kipnis J, 2B .

5. Chisenhall, L

6. Giambi J, DH

7. Gomes Y, C

8. Murphy D, RF

9. Aviles M, 3B

Let's do this.

RHP and ex-Red Sock Justin Masterson can supposedly reach 97 MPH and has a similar style to Dennis Eckersley. But this year he's on pace to pitch his worst season in the majors (I know it's early and w/e but w/e). It's time for another manly outing from Lackey!

Perhaps Nava will get a hit?

??

?

"Perhaps Nava will get a hit." Navafan, you still da man. Bring us home safely tonight. As for Nava, maybe instead you could have said perhaps Drew will get a hit.

Mediterranean cruise. Internet access is prohibitive onboard, but I am still checking in everyday.

I take offense to that.

Masterson seems to be the exact kind of pitcher that will give Bogaerts some fits. So naturally he'll go 4/5 with 2 HR.

Hope Drew can shut me and Fred up tonight, if not with his stick, at least with some defense.

Keep it rolling, Lackey.

John Lackey had not allowed an earned run since May 17th, as he shut out both the Braves and Rays.

Cleveland doesn't stand a chance.

I can't believe the Guardians are still trotting Giambi out there

I know...it is pretty comical. Baseball-Ref doesn't even have any information on how much they're paying him this year. He made $750K last year.

Holy s*** I didn't even know Giambi was still in league. He's hitting like .140 and hit .180 last year, why the hell is he still on their roster

Well I've heard that he is genuinely a good veteran presence in the clubhouse. Like another coach.

Of course he could be just teaching all the young players how to inject each other!
