CC has to learn how to pitch with a f***ing lead!

CC f***ing sucks, get used to it. He's not the pitcher he used to be.

Luckily for him, this team sucks ass right now.

What part of you cannot send him to the minors are you guys missing? If you "send him down", he needs to be passed through waivers, and he will not make it through

What's Tonya Harding up to nowadays? :)

The AL East has always been about pitching. I checked the pitching stats, and the Red Sox are ahead of the Yankees in pitching so far. Surprise. Team ERA 3.59 vs 4.11 (subject to change tonite). But they are behind in hitting. Yanks are hitting .270 while Sox are hitting .242. OPS numbers are bad all around for all teams. Nobody hitting yet.

It's still very early to make any real assessments. Just a few games separating teams. I would say the biggest concern for the Sox is the inconsistency of their starters. Some of them are s***ing the bed early and taking them out of games. That accounts for a fair amount of their losses. We are seeing the same tonite. The 7 run rule seems to be alive and well.

The Yankees ERA issue is attributed to 3 games only. In their 3 worst outings, they allowed 41 runs. The sox have only one game this yr where they allowed 10 runs, but they have allowed 5 or more runs 8 times thus far. The Yankees OTOH, have allowed 5 or more runs 6 times. They've allowed 6 or more only 4 times, whereas the sox have allowed 6 or more 8 times as well

Have you watch the Red Sox play defense?

I thought EEI had a good perspective of the first game of the series. They said it looked like the Bobby Valentine era without Bobby Valentine. Sloppy game with garbage all around. Well, tonight was even worse. Dead from the start

They can make a pitching change in the middle of an at-bat? I didn't know they could do that other than if there were an injury to the pitcher.

In the old days, starters who were off form were shipped to the bullpen, to straighten out their act. Somebody out of the bullpen or from the minors would replace them in the rotation. Nowadays, the conventional wisdom is to "stretch out" guys in the minors to prepare them to start. And there is a sharp distinction between starting and relieving.

Baseball needs to take a good look at how pitching is handled these days--in my view. How it has evolved. A lot of things are done without much foundation. For example, you have the Sox starving for a reliever the last couple games, and one of their best ones, Workman, is sitting in Pawtucket being "stretched out" to start. Why a reliever shortage? Because relievers are often used in games to keep pitch counts down for starters--instead of using them when starters are actually in trouble, as they were used in the past. Overused. They can't do both.

With all the arm injuries occurring lately, the media should take a look at the new pitching orthodoxy, e.g., pitch counts, bullpen use, etc., and see what effect any of this has on durability and conditioning. There just didn't seem to be that many arm injuries in the old days. Raschi, Reynolds and Lopat pitched a lot of years in the Yankee starting rotation. So did Lemon, Garcia, Wynn and Feller for Cleveland.

The only reason the team ERA is alright is because of the stellar bullpen. It's ALL about the starting pitching. We will be 26th, possibly even 27th/28th in the league after this game for starting pitching ERA. If your starters are getting shelled, all the offense in the world won't matter. Our pen has already been overused because of our starters getting knocked out early, it will fall apart fast if the starting doesn't come together.

^ Spot on with your last post. I agree that I'm not a fan of how structured the pitching is today. Too often they don't use their best pitchers in critical spots simply because it isn't their "slot" or other nonsense. Specialization is a good thing, but forced roles are not.
