It's baseball, there's no cap. The Sox have more than enough money. Really though, I can't blame the FO. Ellsbury clearly cared more about a few extra million than sticking with the Sox. It was his choice to leave.

I don't think the Sox FO had all that much interest in trying to keep him, really. They knew he would be getting big money and they had JBJ coming.

This team better find a way out of this.I am starting to wonder if maybe letting salty go was a smart decision.A.J doesnt seem to be on the same page with the pitchers.

It will not give me any comfort if he falls apart in 3 years if he helps the Skanks win a championship. It will not be a consolation for me.

Before tonights game

Bradley 0.3 WAR

Ellsbury 0.3 WAR

Yeah they are currently comparable. Plus, if we kept Ells, we'd still have Bradley, and the Skanks wouldn't have either of them.

Bradley won't come close to Ellsbury as a hitter. He is far better defender, though.
I don't care if Bradley becomes the next DiMaggio. It bothers me whe one of our stars ends up with the Yankees, and I don't care that the FO was correct for passing on Ells from a financial standpoint. That business aspect doesn't comfort me when I am watching him run all over the bases against us and making running catches. Admittedly, it is an emotional thing, but that's how I feel about losing one of ours to the Skanks. If he can't run in 3 years I will still be upset that he played for them, especially if he helps them win a Championship. So, people can point to all the metrics they want. He's a great player that came up through our system and helped us win 2 Championships, and I never in my long history saw a Sox player run like that and cause so much excitement on the base paths. Now, he is with my hated enemy, and it bothers me.

This team needs to win the next 2 games desperately.
On paper, the pitching matchups may not favor us, but I like our chances the next 2 nights. Also, would someone go get Victorino and bring him to Fenway tonight so he will be there for tomorrow night's game.

A bit ridiculous Vic wasn't timed to be back tonite. Seems like the guys upstairs are operating in a vacuum.

I wonder if these guys are into it mentally yet. Either that, or they weren't ready to play coming out of Florida.

Ellsbury was not coming back to Boston--not with Boras as his agent. He had Yankees for big bucks written all over him. In NY, they just raise the bar to get the player--above what anybody else will pay. It works for most players, especially Boras clients, who are out for top dollar.

How exactly do you measure "desire"? Saying they're not trying is nonsense. They're struggling because they're missing two key players, and because the SP is sucking ass. No need to overthink things.

I just can't see the Yankees going anywhere with this team. Their infield sucks, and their pitching looks very tentative. They have been lucky with Tanaka and Pineda--so far. This isn't a championship Yankee team.

Hey user are u kidding me? You play with what u have. This team looks dead every game in the first 5 innings. They are f***ing abysmal with risp.I am not giving up on the season but show some desire to win games. They look like the team from spring training

Well that happens when you're throwing out f***ing Brock Holt out there on a daily basis. And the fact that they're bad with RISP right now is something that happens for a period of time every season, and every season we hear the same whine-fest about it. It happens. I'm not kidding you, i'm telling you to get real.

I wonder how much A.J has affected this pitching staff as well.Salty was a strikeout machine but he worked well with the pitching staff behind the plate

It's April 22nd. This reminds me of every year Yankees fans have told me "Call me back in July" and lo and behold, they're in 1st place. We all knew this team would have its struggles with the rookies and guys having to live up to career years, so why hammer yourself about it? All we can do is ride this out.
