Lackey has gone sour the last couple starts. Didn't he have a high pitch count a couple of starts back? 120 +? May have affected him.

No, was just bad.

We are seeing vintage 2011 John Lackey so far this season.

A pity really Ted. John got little support from the team hitting wise and still performed for us so well last season, and in the playoffs he stood real tall. Here's hoping he can get it together and do what he did in his first two starts. Needless to say I am and have always been a John Lackey fan, even when he pitched for the Angels. You know seeing him out there that he gives a damn.

What the hell do we take from this miserable game? Well we got 11 hits and didn't lose any ground in the standings since the first place Yankees lost after coughing up a big lead. I do notice that Elllsbury got two more hits and is hitting 373. How's Bradley doing again????? Well as someone mentioned earlier we might even give the guy a shot at leadoff man and hope the walks and some hits make up for the plethora of strikeouts this guy seems to ring up. We also got 11 hits tonight and that's more than we got in the last three games combined.

Anybody else has any positives I'm all ears. Sooner or later you would think we would start putting some real solid play together in all facets of the game. Maybe this is the last of Spring Training for the team and we're ready to make a move. And where the hell was everybody tonight? I guess some threw in the towel early.

Strange as it may sound, I had other things to do. I imagine many other people did as well.

As for positives, I can list them, but I and a lot of others have been listing them over and over again for the last two weeks, so I'm not sure how much good it will do. However, as my record with employment, women, and alcohol indicates, I'm willing to keep trying long after it's clear that I am getting nowhere:

Positive number 1: It's not even May yet, the Sox have more than 140 games in which to make up less than 5 games in the standings

Positive number 2: Victorino and Middlebrooks will be back soon, and the Sox will again have the lineup we all envisioned going into the season. The less-than-mediocre backups that have been starting games for them (Herrera, Holt, Roberts) will be relegated to either the minors or the mists of history

Positive number 3: The Sox didn't pay the gross domestic product of Luxembourg for Ellsbury, thereby burying themselves under a Crawford-like contract that more than a few people on this site would almost certainly be complaining about in a couple years when his speed starts to catch up with his age

Positive number 4: The Sox are defending World Series Champions, a team that will be in contention for the entire season, and we are privileged to be fans of a team that will have that chance

Positive number 5: We aren't Cubs fans. I mean, seriously, sometimes I just feel terrible for those guys. I'd buy them all a drink but I'm pretty sure the entirety of Chicago is already drunk at any given time

Positive number 6: Lester

Positive number 7: Ortiz, Napoli, and Pedroia haven't even warmed up yet, and we all know what they're like when they do

Positive number 8: I see several bans of the "Red Sux" variety in the near future, which should boost both the intelligence and the morale of our beloved website.

Right now, we are playing terrible uninspired boring ball. I saw little positive in tonight's game.

Well I will do you a favor Youk... I'm banning myself for a month starting now. We'll see in a month how the team is doing and if you're right I will certainly give a mea culpa. Some of you seem content to just roll along and hope that things will sort themselves out, but I heard the same thing in early 2012 and when I returned a month later things were worse. I said before and I say now.....this team was NOT ready when the season began. There was little sense of urgency in ST. Anyway good luck....See you in a month...or two.

Red Sox would have been over the luxury tax had they signed Ellsbury. Ownership is not going to do that.

Jeez dude, did you ever stop and remember that it's just a game?

I thought he was asking about the positives in tonight's game.

One of the generally useless guys, Holt, did a good job filling in tonight. Nava looks like he's getting ready to heat up. The Sox had hits or baserunners in almost every inning and were never too far out of it until the end. Sizemore, while not doing much today, looks healthy, and that's a positive every game. Pierzynski is approximately seven billion times better defensively than Salty was, despite the fact that his last name is almost as annoying to spell and also despite the fact that he is almost as much of a giant douche as a literal giant douche. Bogaerts got on base a couple more times. The Sox are only a few games back. I'm sure I could pull out a few more if I put my mind to it. I'm not saying losing doesn't suck, and I do hope they pull everything together soon, but I'm more willing to see the bad and good parts of what's going on the first few weeks of the season, as opposed to others on this forum who seem determined to find the cloud in every silver lining, even during games that the Sox win. If this is still going on in June, I'll be worried. Right now, I'm just frustrated, but I trust Ortiz, Napoli, Pedroia, Lester, Koji, Lackey, Buchholz, Nava, and most of these other guys to pick up the pace before long, because I know they can do it. Honestly, the only thing I hate about the Sox right now is Ryan Roberts, and he's gone.

Besides, isn't this the team that always starts off slow, then begins to hit their stride after a win on Marathon Monday? Nothing to be concerned about unless Sox are still under .500 10-15 games after Shane and Will return.

Well I do as well, in what most other Nutmegers call Huskies season.

They started fast last year, but that was "Best Team Ever". This team isn't as good, but they aren't the 2012 Red Sox either. 85-90 wins is a good season.

I hate college sports in general, and UCONN in particular, only slightly less than the mob hates the Witness Protection Program. Every year, it's all anyone talks about around here, I couldn't give less of a s*** if UCONN wins a game or not, I just want it to be over as quickly as possible.

My point was just that I'm gone the whole offseason.

I've been watching them for 47 years win or lose. I rarely miss a game. I don't get too worked up about most regular season games. When a team is playing bad, you think they are worse than they are. You can't trust your eyes during a hot streak either. One thing that this team hasn't shown yet is an ability to fight back or come from behind. They gutted out the extra inning game in Chicago, but we couldn't win that game until they put a position player on the mound. Last year's crew found ways to win games when they were banged up and playing poorly. As for citing Brock Holt as a bright spot....puhlease. It's a dark day when he is in anyone's lineup. He is a bag-o-s***. The best thing about him is his name. We have improved defensively behind the plate, but everywhere else we are weaker right now. Bradley can go get the ball, but when he was flanked by Carp and Nava the other day, that was an outfield lacking range. Edited by a700hitter

Another thing that I have noticed in the early going is an unusual number of bunt base hits against us. That has nothing to to with injuries. It is just poor fundamentals.
Posted
Nava and Carp might be the worst defensive corner outfield tandem to ever take the field in MLB history.

f***ing Nava makes Manny Ramirez look like a good outfielder. Dude is absolutely awful.

Why do you hate college sports? I love college sports, particularly the atmosphere I find awesome.

Well, we did win a WS a few months ago. I don't see the point in getting worked up over games in April. Enjoy your vacation Fred!

The Yanks had an easy early schedule (what else is new) and some unexpected good starts from Tanaka and Pineda. They are playing over their heads, if you look at the rest of the team. The Red Sox regulars, at least some of them, look like they are still in ST. The FO deserves a mulligan for picking up Roberts (they could have had Soriano from Theo last season, but they sneered at his OBP).TB has had a couple of their starters go down. The Os look like they'll be tough if Davis starts hitting. The cream will eventually rise to the top, and the usual suspects will be there.

I had a high school friend, haven't seen the guy in a couple years. He's one of the most intelligent people I've ever known. From the time I met him in freshman year of high school, the only thing he ever wanted to do was be a doctor. When I ran into him last year, he was just starting medical school, five years AFTER graduating high school, because it took him that long to save up enough money to afford to go without having to work four jobs while he attended. As it is, he works two jobs and barely covers everything. He didn't qualify for more than a basic scholarship (which didn't begin to cover any of his costs) because his parents make too much money, despite the fact that their assistance is still not enough to cover a large enough percentage of his expenses. When he is finally a doctor, it will take him years to pay off his debts.

But if you're really, really good at playing basketball, you can go to college for free. There are constantly new stories about NCAA violations when schools are caught letting players skate through classes.

That's why I hate college sports. Because some guys, many of whom are about as intelligent as your average goldfish, get a free ride through college that they barely appreciate, while people who have the potential to benefit society in so many more important ways have to practically kill themselves working just to scrape enough money to pay the interest on their student loan debts.

And that is the POV I completely understand. Jealousy and envy play a large role to those who are in college and struggling or those who are recently out of college. I can understand why a lot of 20-30 year olds aren't big college sports fans. The majority of big fans are either kids like me who haven't had to go through the college life yet or rich old people that have donated boatloads of money to their alma mater's alumni fund and have season tickets to all the football games and what not.

HALLELUJAH and AMEN!!!! This move will definitely make this place much much better!!!

And that was his way of saying he's gone forever.

I wish!!

We should be so lucky. He's left for extended periods before, but he always comes back. Almost everyone does, even I did once.

Wouldn't it be so great if we could be that lucky??? But you are right. He'll be back and spewing his usual "mark my words" or "you'd better heed my warnings or else" or "I told you so" or "I know what's better for this team than anyone in the Red Sox organization" BS. Red Sox fans like him are truly an embarrassment. Reading his whiney posts, you'd never know we won the WS last year or 3 in the last 10 years. It could all have to do with his shorter time as a Red Sox fan than most of the rest of us. But still......GOOD RIDDANCE!!
