This team is just figuring things out, hoping to tread water enough until we either get reinforcements from outside or within. Pineda should be back soon and a deal for a guy like Hammel or Samardzija could be realty helpful

The Yankees seem to be doing much better than I thought possible at the start of the year. Hal recently stated that he will spend whatever he has to in an effort to win this year. Like Father, like Son, I guess. I'm sure that they will go out and buy some names to bolster their lineup.

I only hope that the Sox FO does something to help get this team pointed back in the right direction soon.

The Red Sox have.....they resigned Drew. Talk about stupidity.....then again, I knew all along that he would wind up back with us and said so from last November on. BTW, the signing will be another disaster for us.

Jeez lol, how bad did you expect them to be before the season started? Because they're about to drop to .500, and they're currently the proud owners of a -16 run differential.

Are you really this dumb Fred?

Honestly I thought the Yankees would be about where the Sox are now.

Got to give them some credit, though.

They had been doing better than what I had expected.

By Brett Gardner robbing a game winning hit. Aceves was hit all over the park, how he didn't allow a run is beyond me.

Seriously. Usually when you hit a batter and allow four rockets in the span of two innings you end up allowing at least one run. In this case, nope.

On a different note, as happy as I am that they won this game (and won some other games recently), it seems that any time they do win it takes a heroic effort from the key members of the bullpen. Robertson missed 2 weeks and has only been used to get 3 or 4 outs in each appearance, so I'm not really worried about him yet. But they're going to ruin Betances and Warren by the ASB at this rate. They need Kelley back and they need to find a way to start getting more length from their starters.

I think they like the roster flexibility that Aceves provides to this point. I floated this on the scout forum, and if the Yankees promote any more kids, and then a player comes back from injury, then that player may lose an option or worse, have to be DFA'd. We have no shortage of power relief options in the minors. Montgomery, Burawa, Pinder, Ramirez et al. Once we get a definitive answer on Beltran and get Kelley and Pineda back, we should be close to full strength. Remember, two key pen cogs are in the rotation currently in Nuno and Phelps. I thought both of those guys would be playing key pen roles this yr. Now, they're pressed into duty. I also like what Whitley has brought to the table. Wait until you see him as a reliever. He's a 90-92 guy in the rotation. In relief, he's a 94-95 guy and his power plays off that solid change. I do think we are pressing Dellin a lot and Warren is getting a lot of run right now. When Kelley returns, Warren will slot into the 7th inning role again and on nights when Tanaka pitches, he shouldn't be needed.

Miraculously, we are 6th in the AL in IP/start with 60% of our rotation on the DL at 5.8IP per start. Once we get Pineda back, that should tick up a little, and I do expect there to be some significant rotational help coming in from outside the org

So Joe, it might have been nice to see Tanaka on full rest again tonight while skipping Nuno in the rotation. Just f***ing saying. And how many runs are you gonna let him allow? He's a sitting duck up there right now

Pineda set back another couple weeks with lingering tightness in the lat. Our rotation is limping ahead with a bunch of #5's and a career minor league reliever. It is time to make a deal Cash. Call the Cubbies and see what it would take to free Hammel and Samardzija

Another game we should have won, although we had no business winning it. Too bad Robertson spit the bit. Betances looked out of this world again. 6 batters faced, 5 K's. His breaking ball and his FB come out of the same slot, so when he throws the curve inside to hitters, the batter jumps out of the way. He is downright unhittable. I honestly think the Yankees have no intention of re-signing Robertson. I hope, for 2014's sake, that KRob is dominant this yr and gets over his hiccups. Because I hope he is a QO guy come this offseason and we can get a pick. Betances is the closer in waiting with Warren being the setup guy and Kelley being the 7th inning guy come 2015. By then, Pinder, Burawa, Ramirez, Montgomery, et al should be rounding out the pen too. There is no reason to spend big in the pen with the talent we have

I am a bit surprised Robertson hasn't been extended by now. So far, he's provided an almost entirely seemless transition from Mariano, which is priceless. What happened tonight -- did he get hurt?

Nope, just didn't have anything. Mo used to go through a stretch where he'd blow 3 saves in 5 tries and then go on 20 in a row perfect. But I honestly think Robertson is in his swan song here. It's too bad, since the guy has proven durable, which is pretty rare in relieving. But for some reason, the Yankees have been able to hit on relief pitching in the draft. They suck at drafting starters or position players, but man do they get back end guys with power. We have 4 or 5 guys who could be setup guys at minimum in AAA right now. Might as well move Betances to closer in 2015 and allocate those funds to fixing our suddenly weak offense or starting staff
