As good as Pineda was tonight, it a bit odd to see his velocity decrease as the game progressed. Hopefully that doesn't become a trend. It didn't happen in his first start against Toronto, so I'm curious to see what happens in his next start.

He's coming off shoulder surgery. I'm ok with 6 strong for now. He just flat out lost it in the seventh

So am I, but that's not the point I'm making. For some reason he was able to sustain his velocity in Toronto, but he wasn't able to do it last night. I wonder why that is, and I wonder what we should expect going forward.

Maybe he just tired? How many innings has he pitched in the past two seasons?

From where I sit, he looked pretty good.

Although is was clear that the Ump had a wide and variable zone for both SP last night.

Yeah he did look good. The velocity dip wouldn't have interested me at all, if the same thing had happened in his first start. Just weird that it happened in one start but didn't in another.

I certainly wasn't pay very close attention.

Was he throwing a lot of heat compared to his normal starts?

He seemed to have the Sox off balance and guessing most of the night. And he had good control.

I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Of course I am pissed that he had to be so effective against my team!

What do you think of Buch's effort? He appeared to be better than his first start which was dreadful. I'm just not confident that he will show much of what he had early last year.

Yeah I though Buch looked pretty good. He's not going to be able to rush it up there like he used to, but as long as he spots his FB he should be fine. His biggest issue last night was that he wild in the strike zone with his FB, but I thought his CB and change were pretty good. He's way too talented not to figure it out.

22IP 5ER 28K 2BB. Way better than I could have imagined

Seems to be working out for you and your gang. I would hope that we Red Sox fans would start concerning ourselves with why we off to such a s***** start.....again, save for 2013. Could it be we treated Spring Training as one big hangover party? Most say no; I say yes.

Pineda was dominant again. Girardi is being cautious with him, so he brings in Phelps, who is actively trying to lose the game

You thought he was dominant? I mean, he was alright. He threw a ton of strikes and his fastball had a lot of arm side run. But his fastball velocity was down and his slider wasn't sharp. He wasn't bad, but I thought this start was definitely worse than the previous two. It helped to be facing the Cubs.

Tanaka, on the other hand, was dominant.

Pineda's velo was down, but so way everyone's velocity. Tanaka's was down too. It was bitterly cold. They couldn't barrel the ball off of him, his fastball was a lot less straight than his previous starts and his change was very good. He wasn't as overpowering as he was vs Boston, but he wasn't even challenged

The Cubs lineup is pathetic.
