Sadly I'm not that surprised by this, seems like he's been under quite a bit of stress since his career ended, with his company going under, reports that he's spent every dime he ever made during his playing career, I heard one of his sons has autism, I feel like I'm missing a couple of things too. Not good.

He also has had a heart attack.

You can bet he will be in my prayers from here on in. Schill to me is on a pedestal and I will never forget that he laid his health and career on the line for his and our team. I hope no one ever forgets that. God be with you Curt.

It's a little shocking to see the calamities that have befallen Schilling since the end of his baseball career. He had seemed like one of those people who would always be on the winning side.

So stress causes cancer?

Obviously this is very concerning but it's hard to understand what's really the prognosis. "Has cancer" has a hundred different meanings.

Depending on the cancer, I think the medical community believes that stress can be a contributing factor.

Oh it's a factor alright -- a huge one, as it can be with all health related problems.

Stress suppresses the immune system leaving you susceptible to many diseases and conditions. Curt is a tough. The guy lost everything, and he and his wife are still standing. He is an admirable guy.

Yeah, in spite of whatever flaws he may have, I agree with this.

I posted on the other thread about this. Schilling is one of the great competitors--his World Series heroics for two teams should get him into the HOF. Hello Catfish Hunter. If Curt had played for the Yankees, it would be a no brainer in the media. Get well, Curt. Beat it. Red Sox fans everywhere love you.

Schilling actually had World Series heroics for 3 teams.

In Game 5 of the 1993 WS, with the Phillies trailing the Jays 3-1, he pitched a complete game shutout to keep the Phils alive. They lost in Game 6 on the Joe Carter HR.
