Arod tested positive in 2003 for testosterone and another drug. He then admitted to using from 2001-2003. Jose Canseco then stated he was using in 2008. In 2009, one of Arod's trainers was banned from baseball for carrying around a bag of steroids. In 2010, A-rod was treated by a doctor who was tangled in a mess of smuggling HGH into the U.S. In 2013, Biogenesis.

Ortiz? Some mystery drug in 2003. I would not be surprised if his 2003-2006 seasons were helped by steroids, but he has gone far too long without a whimper of anything to show he's using now. He's also aged much better than most of the steroid users, and his numbers have been pretty consistent.

SO a guy who tested positive for a PED in 2003 who subsequently saw his career rebound at age 35 after 2 down years doesn't at least draw a strong question of using? Really? Remove rosey glasses please.

Guess away. You still just have the one fact.

Ortiz had two cold Aprils, and a cold May. His OPS was from .900 to 1.100 every other month in 2008, and .850 to 1.060 in 2009. His wrist injury hurt his production, and he got inside his own head a bit. Three bad months don't always scream decline.

Ortiz's big home run years were at age 28, 29, 30. His HR production tapered off at age 31 and hasn't returned to those high levels.

Yankee's go public and advises they will not give Cano a 200M contract.

Cano must be pissed lol

Cano can thank his infield mates A-Rod and Tex for the lessons they have taught the Yankees in mega-contracts.

Sox should sign Cano ... 10 years at 200M ... play 1B ... he will put up numbers equal to Texiera, AGon, Fielder, etc.

You have to appreciate what Ortiz has done in his mid to late 30's ... simply amazing.

The Yankees going public with this was a smart move. It means Cano cannot play the Yankees against themselves and knowing where NY stands will mean any dark horse cannot have the Yankees played against them. Cano's reps aren't being very realistic and he probably would have been better off with Boras. When it comes to Boras, he'll laud over a player, but he never gives the first offer. Sounds like Cano's people floated two offers before the Yankees floated theirs. Unless someone really is out there on the fringe, my bet is NY won't have to raise their offer. If I was Cashman now, I'd actually give an expiration date of the end of the winter meetings to get something done. There is no team in baseball who is going to spend $250 mil over 9 yrs on a guy who's considered lackadaisical and who's kinda been a bit lackluster in the clutch. If you're gonna drop this kind of coin, your going to want a guy with Miguel Cabrera's production

Dodgers will trade Kemp and sign Cano. That's my bold prediction of the offseason (or maybe just of the day)

Cano might be lucky to get a 200M contract and it will not be from NYY.

Jacko, I'm with you on that all the way. The Yankees are playing this real smart......that is, if they really mean and are not just bluffing or lying through their teeth, a habit they've become proficient at. No interest in Damon? None in Teixiera? No dealing with A-Rod in late 2007? I'll just hold off from lauding them until I see if their stand is for real. As I said, their stance is a good one if they really mean it. Do they though?

Pin, I have a straw hat that is actually made of crackers......very very stale and probably taste like crap. I promise to eat it if Cano signs elsewhere. He won't. I may not like the Yankees but they are not stupid.....sneaky, yes, but very smart. Cano had better get religion quickly and put his name on the dotted line. As for Ellsbury I really now hope the Red Sox put on a full court press for him. I just think our offense would be hurt with his bat and legs. Good to see you posting here.

Latest rumors say the Mariners may be willing to give Cano 8 years and 200 million.

Kind of Mark's move LOL

if he posts your fWAR, bWAR, xWAR, zWAR or whatever in 6Y out of 8 (which is very likely IMO) and the other 2 Y posts a decent WAR above a replacement level player call it deal.

Yeah, except that as history has shown, that's almost impossible.

I really believe that Cano could make that contract work it out. Problem is I don't see Cano taking a 200M/8Y contract.

Dollars to donuts Bellhorn, I'll bet the Mariners are once again dealing in ********. They haven't the balls to make such an offer and if they suddenly got hair and did Cano would be dumb and dumber to accept an offer from that second rate outfit.

Yankees Closing In On Deal With Jacoby EllsburyBy Zach Links [December 3 at 7:19pm CST]

The Yankees are closing in on a seven-year deal with Jacoby Ellsbury, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. "It could happen," someone familiar with the talks told Heyman. It is believed the deal would top Carl Crawford's $142MM, seven-year deal.

ESPN's Jayson Stark reported on Monday that talks were moving faster than expected for the Scott Boras client.
