There were a good number of Sox fans at the Trop last night. Wonder if they were doing some scouting of future ALDS opponents.

I see what the Sox are doing, they're going to wait until the last day of the season to ruin the O's season. Let them get some confidence, then f*** them up in their own house. It'll be a beautiful thing.

Yes, pls.

You can't keep giving the other team an opportunity in extra innings. Sooner or later you lose.

Their losses lately have been games like this.

Yeah.....see they haven't lost 2 in a row since August 15-16. They're 10-6 in extra innings. They're 21-19 in 1-run games.

So basically everything you just said is wrong.

The game would never have gone into extra innings if the Sox had scored during any of the chances they had in the first nine. Morales pitched well in his first inning, and Farrell chose to try to get a second inning out of him rather than work yet another pitcher.
The bunt instead of the steal was a very poor tactical move by the manager and essentially ended any chance of scoring that inning because Drew has really struggled against lefties. He (Farrell) took the bat out of Middlebrooks' hands on a night where he was swinging good. Of course the players win or lose the game on the field. Managers have very few tactical opportunities to affect the outcome of a game. Last night when presented with such an opportunity, Farrell blew, pure and simple. This is not a condemnation of him as a manager. He has done a very good job this season. However, last night, he blew a chance to win the game and he set up failure in that inning. Farrell's strong point is not in game tactical moves, but from what I see he is better than Tito in that regard. You asked how Farrell lost the game. IMO, he blew an opportunity, and managers don't get too any of those.

Some notes from Pete Abe:

The Sox had 15 hits but scored one run over the final 11 innings. They grounded into four double plays, two in extra innings, and left nine runners on base.

^ A huge reason we lost, obviously.

The Sox should do what they can to send the Orioles home for the winter. The Sox are 6-9 against Baltimore this season and 13-27 since the final month of the 2011 season

The O's have had our number since 2011. Time to put a stop to that. Hate playing them more than the NYY these days!

These games still have a ton of meaning. The Sox need to win the best record so they don't have to face the Tigers in a short series. Last night the A's lost, so the Sox could have built their lead to 3.5 games with 9 to play.

This series seems like a "let down" series after the NYY - TB - NYY series. Kind of like a college football or basketball team, when they play a huge game against a big opponent, they get all hyped up for it, get a huge win, and then they play some garbage team the next week and lose. That's exactly how this feels.

It's time to stop feeding the ego of that smug idiot Showalter and stop this embarrassment of the O's continuing to eat our lunch every September.

Showalter is in my top two on my list of baseball idiots. He managed to get fired or quit as Yankee manager when they were on the brink of their great run. Joe Torre came in and won 4 championships in 5 years and is likely to go into the HOF. He forced Steinbrener's hand. He acted like a major jackass after the 1995 season. Then Showalter goes to Arizona and builds up their program and gets himself fired after the 2000 season and the DBacks won the championship in 2001. Oriole fans should look forward to him getting fired. I hate the douche. His biggest victory as a manager has been knocking us out of the playoff spot in 2011.

There may have been a letdown, but the Orioles are about as good as the Rays and the Yankees.

The O's lineup is more formidable than the Yanks or Tampa. Their starting pitching is mediocre, but their middle relief is better than most teams. Our strength has been feasting on bullpens. The O's pen has beat us the last 2 games.

The favor will be returned. On September 29th, 2013. Precisely 2 years and 1 day after they did it to us.

How do I remember the exact day? Well of course, September 28th is my birthday.
