There's a lot of fans that think the league is being "wussified" because of the NFL's curtailing of the rules to reduce concussions. You're sarcasm made me think you were one of them. As for the players knowing what they signed up for, there's substantial evidence that the NFL engaged in hiding information about long-term brain injuries from players in the past. I'm also fairly certain that NFL players are not neurology experts.

Its an uglier problem than that though. The evidence is pointing to the bulk of the damage being done long before a football player becomes a pro. So the whole thing is ass backwards. NFL players are professionals and it is far easier to make the case that they know the risks and are willing to take them. While the evidence points to the bulk of the damage being done before a player becomes a pro, the influence pro football has on all the other organized tiers is great. So the NFL is forced to lead the way in pursuit of solutions as a means of protecting its future talent pool. While the sport is incredibly healthy financially, it is a nasty problem.

I don't care how old they are. You don't get a trophy for just playing a sport. You have to win or come in 2nd. You don't reward kids for showing up and playing. But that's how it is these days. Just sayin...
Agreed. Should not reward mediocrity --- sends a terrible message and teaches nothing about life and competition.

I'm actually with VA on the participation thing. That's life, it worked for every other generation since the beginning. You want to be #1 and get all the accolades? Try harder. We didn't get to be the dominant species on this planet by coddling the ones who didn't try harder.

Early humans almost certainly embraced cooperative efforts as a means to survive. Competition between each and all would have been a death sentence. That's for another day, I suppose.

Thank you. But I don't see this practice going away any time soon. Just glad I grew up when I did.

They just won't do s*** against a pitcher who is s*** since joining the Os.

Well, theyve scored well in the past 3 games. What can you expect?

They're small children. I don't want to turn them into cynical, selfish *******s before they're even 10

It's too much to ask them to spread it out. Doesn't work that way..dammit.

I didn't want to say it earlier, but the Sox play like such s*** when A)Had a really good offensive game the day before or B) Face a pitcher that they should be beating up on. This game isn't over yet, but it's getting really f***ing annoying. It happens too much.

Second to last Ortiz AB really frustrating. Had he banged that off the wall, the Davis HR would still leave the O's short a run or tied at best with their starter on the ropes. That Ortiz AB might be the thing that comes back to haunt us unless we do our usual feasting after an early Norris exit.

This. I prefer cooperation to competition.
