Brock has shown very solid defense at third and did have an average up over 300 early, but has since cooled down too 235 and really is only good for singles. Snyder certaintly has more pop, but is still a very inconssistent hitter at 220. Should the sox make a call up at the hot corner now? If not, when?

Bogaerts needs to be up here. It's time. Yes, there will be some growing pains for him. But consider this: Of the 30 MLB teams, the Red Sox rank #23 in OPS with a .651 mark. I'm pretty sure Bogaerts will be able, even during the growing pains period, to outproduce that.

I think it's going to be Boegarts (small chance Middlebrooks) soon enough. I think the Red Sox if they call up Boegarts, it will either be as a September call-up (and he'd be playoff eligible too due to the season ending injuries our relievers have suffered) or they might have him meet them in Kansas City. No fanfare, almost no hype - just drop him in the middle of a road trip without a ton of buzz and give him some low distraction time to break in.

I think Boegarts or Middlebrooks would provide an upgrade over Holt or Snyder.

Yup. If they still want to keep Xander down for defensive reasons, why not bring up WMB? He'll be better in the field and can't hit any worse.

Holt is here for position flexibility. If a team is committed to having an 11 man pitching staff, the bench players have to be able to cover more. Pedroia has no backup without Holt here - so he stays. Snyder being voted off the island on the other hand is only a matter of time.

Holt has missed two easy popups in foul territory over the past week. His defense is as solid as Jello.

Does bringing up Bogaerts before September affect in anyway the number of years that the Sox will control him? Do the Sox loose a year of control if they bring him up now? I don't know.

I believe September callups don't affect that - but I am not 100%. I have been focused on the postseason eligibility thing - where Boegarts is covered as well. I think they are waiting for an opportunistic time to bring him up, where they can break him in a little bit (as much as the Nation allows that at all).

There's a 1.5 game lead on the Rays right now. This team has a chance to make a deep playoff push, especially if Buchholz gets back. You don't want to face that 1 game play in.

It's absurdly idiotic not to have Bogaerts up in Boston, yet continue to go with a due that has put up a .349 OPS in August and cannot defend for crap. Snyder has already lost us the game against the Angels with his defense and Holt has no idea what he's doing at 3B, he was 8 feet away from the pop up in foul ground last night and called Lavarnway off of one that was about to land on the plate.

I cannot fathom what the hell they're thinking, keeping Bogaerts down. If he's not up by tomorrow for the game against Bruce Chen, a soft throwing lefty who he should absolutely destroy, I will be well beyond baffled. I could almost understand it if we had a duo who was posting a .650 OPS and playing above average D, then we could maybe let Bogaerts marinate a couple weeks more, but that's simply not the case. This team is winning in spite of the 3B absolute disaster.

Not too many people have been destroying Bruce Chen.

True, but he has made some very nice plays on ground balls. The one that was really on him was the one when he called off ryan lavarnway.

I repeat Snyder and Holt stink.

Both have showed why they have been minor leaguers for their careers Ted. When we face a lefty we need another power bat and for that we either bring up Middlebrooks or Bogey. Holt looks lost on third and isn't hitting anymore worth a damn and Snyder has been jerked in and out of the lineup so as not to have any real timing anymore. We need someone better at that position.

Snyder's days are clearly numbered. Holt's job is safe - there is no other remotely qualified "utility infielder" on the roster. If they were going to promote Middlebrooks, I think they would have already done it. They still might - but I think the organization is trying to find a way to make the Boegarts promotion happen without too much pressure on him.

The Sox lack of offensive against lefties since the All-Star break mean that they need to get another right handed threat in the lineup. That means either Bogaerts or WMB has to be in the lineup at 3B moving forward. When you have the likes on B. Chen shutting you down something has to be changed.
