Plus Peavy isn't sporting some ungodly abomination on his chin that he thinks is facial hair.

Mike Napoli, Jonny Gomes, Dustin Pedroia...

Iglesias is a bit above the prospect level. He's Detroit's starting SS tonite. He could be a steal, or he could be a utility player. It's a mystery.

Very true.

I don't see Iglesias becoming a bust because he has such a strong glove. He will always have some value to a team. At the very least he has a career as a bench utility player.

I think thats why Detroit bought him. His defense at short, a super-premium position, is second to none. Detroit's line-up is packed with hitters so they can manage with Iglesias's bat even if he starts for them and hits 9th for the next 3 years I don't think they'll regret the move.

Iglesias is probably a starter to utility guy, depends on the hit tool. His ceiling is probably a .260 sort of guy without any real side benefits (walk/extra bases). It's a hole in your lineup, but if you can eliminate ground balls on that side of the infield and allow your team to let the league's best hitter waddle around at 3B without killing you - it's a fair trade.

Iggy is currently energized by the trade. We have all by now seen what Iggy energized by something looks like. I suspect once he comes down to earth, he will again be what he had become at the plate for us...somebody will a good deal more work to do to even maintain something like a .250 BA. He can do it ...but man he has a lotta' work to do.

Sorry, I had to say this, it's been on my chest since the big brouhaha about it back in 09 when I took a LOT of heat from opposing the signing.

Looks like it was the right decision in hindsight to oppose that contract. He had the one great year in 09 and then he's been pretty good but not $22M good the next 3 years, but he's been steadily declining every year since 09 -- and the Yankees have 3 more years at 22 mil to eat.

Now this probably doesn't hurt the Yankees very much, but it absolutely would have hurt us. Sometimes the Yankees just outright do us a favor.

There, I've said it, that's done, I'm over it, we can all move on now.

Yet these idiot teams keep dishing out the crazy money and number of years, no matter how many times they get burned by underachievement - not that anyone could humanly achieve enough to justify the salary in some cases.

The Teixeira signing by the Yankees was a good one and viewed very favorably at the time. He wasn't somebody you expected to fall off. I think he was 28, never had a major injury, played great defense, and always posted consistently elite numbers. That is the kind of player you're okay giving $20M/year to.

Teixeira use the Sox to get more $$$$ from the $pankees because he had no intentions of playing in Boston. I am glad that signing never took place, and that the Sox didn't make the trade for A-Rod. Remember that could have happened. Now the $panks are dealing with these two headache contracts. All of the $$$ they spent on these two contracts and they could only buy the one championship.
