Yup. This is Talk Sox folks. I tried asking the admins to enforce the rules and they closed the thread.

I remember when you made that thread. I suggested a while ago there should be another active mod, but everyone thought we didn't need one. I'd bump the thread, but I'm sure people still have the same thoughts on having a new mod. I don't mind arguing, it's a message board. You guys don't realize it, but the things that are being argued are very childish. Not even going to lie, it's kind of entertaining at some points. You guys just seem to get offended easy. One little ass comment and 10+ pages of s*** follow behind it. It's just really stupid. I'm not going to say stop, you guys can do whatever you please. I just ask at least to keep it to a minimum and not take it too serious. After all, it is only the internet lol.

How dare you! The internet is my life.

Not necessarily. For some this is an outlet. For others things come out a lot worse than they mean them too. Some take everything on the internet and light-hearted and think everything is just fun even if it's insulting to others. Someone's internet persona doesn't always reflects their real-life counterpart.

Wow ... that's deep ... I can just read your words of wisdom all day long!

^Maybe just a tad contentious and a bit abbrasive, not to mention personal. You disagree with the guy. Most of us do on this issue, but really...

Thank you! You can disagree with me. I say giving Pedroia any more than 4-5 years is a mistake. No one knows with certainty who is right. I was under the impression that this site was a place for Sox fans to share opinions about everything Red Sox. The point is that I feel that he would have signed a 4-5 year extension. For some strange reason everyone one here is bent out of shape like it makes a difference in their lives.

Pedroia is the better career hitter (not even close in the OPS department), has been the better and most consistent defender (not just per UZR, but most other advanced fielding metrics), more durable (this isn't even a question) and the face of the Red Sox franchise along with Papi.

Not only is he better, he's a lot better, and he means a lot more to the team. He was also willing to negotiate in-season and not try to squeeze every last dollar out of the Sox, unlike Ellsbury and his agent.

You know nothing .... really very sad. We all know that Pedroia wants to retire with a Sox Uni on. When a player loves a city, the team, management etc. then he is often willing to take less money ... this is not every professional athlete but they are out there and Pedroia is one of them. So knowing that the Sox can count on Pedroia for as long as he can play at a high level the focus going forward should be Ellsbury. What you read in the papers is not fact. Management can approach Ellsbury whenever they wish to as long as he in under contract. I was happy when the Sox were able to dump the blotted contracts of Beckett, Crawford and Gonzalez but spending some cash on a in demand commodity like Ellsbury would be a good investment. 5 years. Pedroia might be more durable than Ellsbury but Pedey did not have Beltre steamroller him. Besides this is not about Pedroia or Ellsbury ... I want both.

Posted
Mostly Irrelevant Fun fact: On Red Sox Smalltalk, when asked about who his favorite teammate was, Pedroia mentioned Ellsbury first, and threw a few other names out there as well. They seem like two completely opposite human beings.

This is because Pedroia appreciates greatness!

Apparently you haven't read my words of wisdom though, since i said above "Signing one does not preclude the Red Sox from signing the other". As for the rest of your post, it doesn't make a lot of sense. What's in the papers is not fact, but it's obviously more reliable than anything you can think up, especially when it comes directly from his agents. He chose more years and less money. Anything you can come up with is either opinion or fabrication, take your pick.

P.S: Ellsbury is good, but not that good.

I'm sorry, but how do you know this? There is only one person who can know this for certain, and that is Pedroia himself. Plenty of guys have sworn up and down that they'll play for their first team for their whole careers and then scarpered as soon as they were offered enough money to buy a private island made entirely out of cocaine-encrusted tits. There are guys who have assured the Red Sox fan community that they would never, ever, ever play for the Yankees because they hate them and whatever else, and then ended up, shockingly, playing for the Yankees. I'm not saying guys like you describe don't exist, because they do. Wakefield was one, we know that because of the recurring contracts he signed. But Dustin Pedroia is a far more valuable player than Wake ever was, and to say with 100 percent certainty that "he is one of those players" is ridiculous. The only way to know that for sure is to wait until he is done playing and look back. If he takes less money to stay with the Red Sox in the future, then he probably is. We have no way of knowing, however, if he would go to another team if they offered him more money or incentives or platform shoes. The Sox signed the deal that they considered to be the best one to keep him in Boston, so clearly the FO, who know more about the situation and Pedroia's options than any of us, felt otherwise.

Well ... arguing with you about management doing whatever they have to do to sign Ellsbury is going nowhere. One of us will be right and one wrong .... or maybe somewhere in between. Have a good night!

This is exactly what my thread was about ... just putting it out there ... Do you think that Pedroia would have signed a 4 year extension?

It's quite possible though, that his main target was indeed the amount of years, given what basically all reports about the deal say.

Yes, that is pretty much what all of the reports say. His agents told him not to take the deal because it was "financial lunacy" how low it was. He stated he wanted years (that gives him security) at the expense of money per year so that the contract would not be an albatross. By the time Pedroia is in his late 30's, salaries will have inflated by so much that he may actually come close to his WAR value. And barring some kind of terrible injury, he'll surpass his WAR value for the next 4-5 years.

That's just childish and sad. They don't deserve your irrational crap.

You know lady, you can dish it out but have a miserable inability to take it. Just shut up!!!!! If you can't say something constructive about one of my posts just butt out. Besides, you put me on ignore if I remember. Do it again unless you want to start some trouble.

More unprovoked poking and hate. I am losing count with you. Have a nice night.

What a cheap and worthless creep that woman is. She must be one frustrated female. She likes to egg people on and insult them but give it back to her and she goes complaining to the mods. I didn't start it with her. I want that understood, but if she continues in that vain I will tear her a new *******. I'm hear to post baseball talk and a little banter with my colleagues. However, if I'm attacked or insulted I will answer in kind Ted. She'd be wise to understand that and back off fast.

Mark, it has to be a two way street. In this case Ellsbury should make the first move as Pedroia did. If he wants to stay a Red Sox he should make that plain to John Henry. As I remember the Red Sox owner said he would like to keep Jacoby on the Red Sox so the ball is now in Ells' court. He only has to tell Boras that he wants to work something out with the Red Sox for an extension and they can get down to business. I would like to see Jacoby stay too since I'm not that certain that Bradley can do for the Red Sox what Jacoby can and whether he can hit ML pitching on a consistent basis. Let's see if Ellsbury makes such a move. Frankly, I doubt it.

Posted
He may have. But he has enough good years left barring injury that he may have gotten a much better offer from another team, and I think locking him up for as much as possible was the smart move.

The thing is when you have a player under contract only the team that has the contract is allowed to contact the player and discuss an extension and visa vera. Sox contacted Pedroia and they made a deal ... The Sox are able to contact Ellsbury while other teams cannot. Maybe if the Sox showed him some love they could get a deal done before he enters the sweepstakes. The Sox are the only team that can offer Ellsbury a bird in the had at this time. Miami did this with Hanley Rameriz, Tampa did this with Longoria, etc.

When was the last time a Boras player signed an extension before hitting FA? That's nonsense.

How about Jarod Weaver? Think he is a good example of a Boras client signing an extension before hitting FA? Not nonsense at all. Look it up.
