3-6, 5.03 ERA

Notable quote:

Evan Longoria on the Red Sox:

"I think all the interviews that I did in Spring Training, if you look back, I talked about how that was a team I was scared of," Longoria said before the Red Sox defeated the Rays, 10-8, in 14 innings on Monday. "It seems like every year you talk about teams that are rebuilding or may not be expected to have the year that they had in the past years, but I really liked that group that they had over there from the start of Spring Training."

Predictions: Lester: 7 IP, 2 ER, 6K. Pedey breaks out against Fausto Hernandez, hitting two XBH against Roberto Carmona. Papi goes deep. Sox win, 7-3.

Maddon after last night's game:

So he intentionally hit him when he did, there’s no question in my mind that he did, and the sad part is that I’ve always considered Lackey a good teammate, but right there he can get one of his own players hurt.
One of our guys is going to get it tonight. Who do you think it will be?

Probably Pedroia. Doesn't matter. Hernandez (formerly known as Carmona) doesn't throw hard. He's going to get his tits lit tonight.

After Maddon's statement, the umps might issue warnings before the game starts.

Apparently Jose De La Torre is going to be up for tonight's game but they still have to figure out the corresponding roster move.

Bailey will help me keep my weight under control, because I am probably going to vomit at the sight of him on the mound in the 9th inning with a 1 or 2 run lead. That's my positive spin.

It will be interesting to see what moves we make. It makes sense to call De La Torre up tonight. It is either Webster or Aceves on Wednesday. Instincts tell me that they are going to go with Aceves.

Call up De La Torre for tonight.

Send down Iglesias (who has to be in the minors for at least 10 days and I highly doubt they send down Middlebrooks).

Call up Aceves for tomorrow night.

Send down De La Torre.

Call up Holt for Thursday? (Until Iglesias' 10 days are up, then call him back up)

Send down Aceves.

I guess another alternative is put Buchholz on the DL, but if he only misses one start, I don't think that is a realistic option to have him out two more games. We can afford for him to miss one, but if he misses two or three when he is healthy, then I will be pissed.

Just heard that the roster move might be Mortensen to the DL. How would that be for a perfect solution? :D
He sneezed in the clubhouse and they put him on the DL.

Maybe another one of those kids who looks better upstairs. Looked good in the WBC.

Wiil the love affair with Mortenson end? Will Tazawa become the closer?

They aren't going to send Iggy down. He's the first infielder off the bench. Besides, he hits much better in Boston than Pawtucket. :)

I'd be very surprised if Iglesias didn't get the start at SS tonight.

Drew looked absolutely overmatched by mediocre pitching last night. He's already had four hat tricks and a golden sombrero this year.

He's been a very hit or miss player, it seems. He'll either get multiple hits, or he'll go 0-fer and look overmatched.

Either way, after 14 innings, I'm sure the entire bench (Iggy, Gomes, Ross, Napoli) from last night will be starting tonight.

Cutting Bailey from the closer role already SoxSports?

Farrell on MLB on XM just now

- Buchholz isn't going to need a DL stint, so that's not the move to get De La Torre up here.

- Three options for SP tomorrow - De La Rosa, Webster, and Aceves.

- Iglesias playing 3B tonight.

Wonder he just doesn't play winner ball at AAA these days and just use his ABs there in order to try different things.

Salty and WMB only two getting the day off today after playing last night.

Really, really surprising that Ells and Vic are both back in the lineup.

Who else play CF if both are not?

Posted

RED SOX (40-25)

Ellsbury CF

Victorino RF

Pedroia 2B

Ortiz DH

Napoli 1B

Nava LF

Drew SS

Ross C

Iglesias 3B

Pitching: LHP Jon Lester (6-2, 3.60).

The surprising aspect is that both of them are in the lineup. I would have expected Gomes to play and one of them to get the day off.

Salty sitting makes sense, after catching all 14 innings. WMB not so much, he's only been back for a day.

Ross usually catches for Lester. At least he has been lately.

Mortensen will though because of a hip impingement. He's on the 15 day DL.

I think it does. They'll probably ease him back so they can give Iglesias some more playing time while they sort things out.

I thought he had suck ligament inflammation. It's inflamed to the point it's taken over his entire body.

Not surprising that they want to get Iglesias back into the lineup because his bat has been on fire. WMB is below the Mendoza line. I think he could lose the starting job if he doesnt snap out of this funk in the next 2 or 3 weeks.

Between the two I think resting Vic would have made the most sense. He is still grimacing just about every time he moves and getting up off the ground he looks like a folding chair and a stiff one at that.
