I'm just glad the Yankees didn't pick up Stanek. And I love that their newest draft pick hates the Yankees. He said his dad thought he was playing a joke when he said the Yankees drafted him.

Who cares. He is now gonna have to dominate. We are probably going to have to use the saved money from Jagielo and Judge to sign Clarkin

It sounds like Clarkin cares, and it's up to him whether he signs with the Yankees or goes to San Diego. He had an off year as a senior in high school, he might be able to increase his stock and make more money next year. Probably won't be an easy sign.

which is why I think we have to use the saved money from the first two picks on Clarkin

The Yankees got a couple of corner outfielders with a ton of power, but question marks about their defense and ability to make consistent contact. Stanek would have made a huge difference, he's a "sure thing" type of draft pick.

If a player gets drafted in the first round and refuses to sign because he has a boyish hate of a team, then he's a moron

Why would they take a discount? Judge was expecting a higher draft pick slot money.

I honestly think Jagielo's bat is a big league bat. He's gonna be a big leaguer. Judge is kinda like Wilson, IMO. He's a boom or bust guy. He could either be a Giancarlo Stanton or be another Jonathan Poterson and anywhere inbetween. But the big ceiling is the way to go, especially when you have three. Jagielo is the safer bet. Clarkin is the pitcher who looks pretty polished as a HS lefty. And Judge is the guy who could be a franchise player. It's an awesome draft thus far. I'm happy

I already pointed out he could improve his stock and move up in the draft with a more consistent year. The fact that he was drafted by a team he hates is just icing on he cake.

And I'm happy too, looks like a win-win.

SR, you nailed it

I understand this part of their maneuver, but Dozier? That makes no sense. There were a lot of better guys out there they could have signed at a discount.

you're happy with the sox pick or happy with the Yankees pick?

I'm happy with the Sox first round pick, I'm very happy the Yankees missed Stanek (not so happy the Rays got him) and I like some of the guys still on the board for the Sox second round pick.

Sox take Teddy Stankiewicz with their second round pick. Not crazy about him. Still just a freshman in college so he has some leverage. Low 90's fastball, but he does have a very good breaking ball. Big pitcher's frame, I doubt he'll add much more muscle. He's got good control and he knows how to pitch, so he's a medium floor, vanilla pick.

I've read a lot on this guy actually. It's a cool story. He has a big chip on his shoulder because he wasn't very good at baseball but has improved to the point where he was projected as a top-100 pick in the draft. Sox tend to draft players with that kind of mentality. He has a bulldog attitude on the mound and is always all over hitters throwing strikes.

So you're telling me he's the Daniel Nava of pitchers? ;)

I'm going to research more into the picks and wait a bit before reacting but I'm a little disappointed with the first pick and extremely disappointed with the second one.

The first pick's good. He's an 18 year old, 6'6'', 190 lb lefthander and he's already throwing in the mid 90's. Plus changeup. No red flags whatsoever.

The second pick seems like a waste. There was much better talent available.

I wonder if it was a potential below slot pick, although from what I'm reading he spurned the Mets because they tried to offer him below slot.

There aren't really any talents left that we would be saving money for. And our first round pick shouldn't have any signability issues. The Red Sox must have really liked him. Red Sox know more about these guys than I do, so I'll just have to trust them.
