It's finally here! I admit I'm much more interested in the draft this season for obvious reasons(Red Sox #7) and have been following it much more closely.

The top of the Draft is a big ? with Appel's likely demands, Gray's Adderall connection(I think if Houston drafts a pitcher it's him because he will come at a discounted price now) or go with the top hitter and the seemingly safest pick in San Diego's Kris Bryant.

I'm guessing the Sox select Clint Frazier(HS OF, arguably the best all around position player in the draft) or Colin Moran(3B North Carolina, Bat is close to MLB ready now but no tool really jumps off the board).

I have not been studying this like you, but if Frazier is the best player in the draft, what makes you think he will be available to us at #7?

My nephew texted me earlier this week and said Manny Ramirez Jr will be a part of this draft. Have you heard anything about him?

Not best position player. All-around best, as in the guy with the widest above-average skillset. Need to actually read what the post says.

They say he will go in the middle rounds(he's coming out of High School) last thing I read was the Sox weren't interested. He's a decent prospect but if he wants to get drafted higher he will have to go to College probably.

He would probably have to slide. A lot of mocks have him going to the Twins at 4. But if he's there the general consensus is the Sox would take him. He also has college in his back pocket and that scares some teams off. Plus he's the youngest so inherently the furthest from MLB ready. There are a few guys at the top of the boards that are expected to be in the majors within the next year or two and Frazier may be a longer term development.

He's also, again, not the best position player. He's the guy with the best all-around tools. There are guys in the draft who are better at individual or clusters of tools than he is and would likely reach the Major quicker.

Most mocks I've seen have the Twins taking high school pitcher Kohl Stewart at number four and the Red Sox taking Clint Frazier at number seven. From what I've read, the Red Sox would prefer Stewart and are hoping he falls to them.

Yeah, Frazier's a guy who's above average at everything. The best position players available in the draft are probably Kris Bryant and Colin Moran.

haha well if the Mocks you've been reading have the Sox selecting #8 then it's hard to take it seriously ;)

Stewart would be a nice pick up as well.

In a perfect world I'd love to see Bryant fall to the Sox, but it ain't happening. This is where trading draft picks to move up in the draft would make the entire draft more interesting.

His post says Frazier at number seven.....

It said 8 the first time I read it, weird..

Don't worry, you're not seeing things. I realized as soon as I posted it that I put the wrong number in there.

Oh good, I was beginning to question my sanity there for a second

The draft is being broadcast tonight on MLB Network and MLB.com (for free I'm pretty sure) for those that want to watch it. Coverage starts at 6, draft starts around 7.

It would be awesome if the Sox could sign a sure thing like Moran, who would sign for cheap and then pay a little more for an high risk, high reward guy like Manaea later.
