It wasn't. I'm forced to watch the Yanks' feed today and the strike zone analysis showed it was clearly a ball.

There are a number of umps in this league that set up to "see" the black on the inside and are really just guessing at the black on the outside as Hershiser alluded to. That is one way to do it I guess. It does piss me off when they miss pitches out there as pitchers are really trying to hit that spot.

A case could be made either way. Pedroia has the better numbers since he became a starting player, but since 2011 they're neck and neck in WAR.

I'm biased of course but the only thing Cano has on him is power and it isn't like Pedey's just a singles hitter. Dustin is a better on base guy and his defense and base running abilities destroy Cano.

I think you are under-estimating those aspects of Cano's game. He has excellent range and hands, and he has the best throwing arm of any second baseman.
