For the Red Sox:

Clay Buchholz, 6-0, 1.01 ERA

http://cdn.sportsoverdose.com/thumbs/clay-buchholz-11-mlb.jpg

Despite looking uncannily like the gentleman who sits in the cab of his pickup truck at the gas station, spitting tobacco out of the window and tossing Natty Ice cans at passing teenagers, Clay Buchholz has thus far pitched what experts have termed "very well" and amateurs have termed "f***ing awesome". It is not inconceivable that Buchholz, who, I can not stress enough, looks mightily like an Alabaman car mechanic, will go to 7-0 after tonights' game against a lineup that has lost a lot of its' intimidation in the past couple of seasons. But seriously, what a redneck

For the Twins:

Vance Worley, 0-4, 7.22 ERA

Despite looking like an 18-year old who desperately wishes he could grow an actual beard, Vance Worley has pitched...well, actually, he's pitched exactly like that sort of guy. What may be the most disappointing part of this season is that Vance Worley is the perfect name for a time-traveling supervillain or the powerful CEO of an evil pharmaceutical company, who also happens to be a supervillain. Instead, this wonderful name that belongs on a top ten list with Lex Luthor and Dr. Claw is being wasted on a guy who appears to only wear sport-reinforced glasses because the regular ones broke too often when he got beat up in high school by the girls on the chess team. The only danger this man poses to the Boston Red Sox is laughter-induced cramping resulting in DL stints, which shouldn't be an issue now that JD Drew is no longer playing on the team.

So let's do this, boys. Getting swept is never good, but put it behind you and keep moving forward. My birthday is on Thursday and I goddamn well better be still making Gamethreads then.

Let's do to these Twinkies what the economy did to the real ones.

Vacation: revived.

Best GT of the year. And it's not close.

Not sure what the hold up is, but with the bullpen being used as much as it was, the Sox need to DL Doubront, call up Breslow, and have an extra arm in the bullpen until Thursday, when they can then option Wilson (assuming Bailey doesn't hit the DL) and call up Webster to take Doubront's start.

Doubront was a mediocre back of the rotation starter when he was sitting 93-94 and touching 96. Now he's a depth option. Webster is a better pitcher today than Doubront.

That good news is that the Sox have a mega cakewalk schedule coming up the rest of this month:

4 v MIN (13-14)

3 v TOR (11-21)

3 @ TB (14-16)

3 @ MIN (13-14)

3 @ CWS (12-17)

4 v CLE (14-14)

2 v PHI (14-18)

2 @ PHI (14-18)

The Sox should win each of these series, and play at least .667 baseball. Should is the key word. And I like their chances of doing just that.

If they are able to do that, they should be around 36-19 or 35-20 by the end of the month. And i wouldn't be shocked if they were even 38-17 after these series.

Not if we keep burning through relievers at this rate.

Which is why I think they need to DL Doub and bring up Breslow until Thurs and then bring up Webster and option Wilson or DL Bailey.

Certainly can't keep making the RP get 9-11 outs a game

If we are looking for relief for the pen I am not convinced a kid like Webster can do that. He still has much to learn. That said I am as frustrated with Felix as I can be.

I think he was saying to DL Doubront, call up Breslow until we need a starter, then bring up Webster to be our #5, not bring up Webster to pitch out of pen.

Which I would 100% agree with.

Yes I realize that is what he was saying. What I am saying is that while I think Webster to the rotation and Felix GONE might be the right move, I don't think you do it to save innings out of the pen. I don't think this year's edition of Webster will save you innings out of the pen.

You'd DFA/trade Felix at this point? One bad start and we should get rid of him?

The problem with Doubront is that he tends to walk a lot of people and lose control of everything under pressure a la D-K to the point to give up a game. I need to see a couple of more starts and then make a call, though.

I wouldn't say "get rid of him" as much as I'd say "kick him in the ass and show him how replaceable he is and where he could end up if he doesn't figure it out"

Bingo.

Take the sense of entitlement out of the little jerk off. He is going to be a lazy SOB every other year it seems. The Beckett effect. Except when he's good, he's not that good.

He needs to not make another start until he's back to 93-95. Period. He is ineffective at 88-90.

He needs to be on the DL with dead arm until his velocity returns. Period. He can build his velocity in Pawtucket or go down to XST and build arm strength. But until he's back to throwing hard, he's going to get torched.

he had the same issue last year and i called out that doubbie was gassed out. apparently it has happened even earlier this year. he has to be fit and not come to camp looking like he is 7 months pregnant, no offense to anybody...

While I agree that velocity is very important, I prefer a 91-92 pitcher with great command, control and at least 3 different well controlled type of pitches than a 95+ MPH pitcher that cant even locate and/or lacks another type of pitches.

Problem with Doubront is that he is not neither of those types at this point.

This. Doubront is so frustrating to watch.
