What the hell....is there a sale somewhere on balky biceps? That is the announcement on Bailey.

I'm skeptical. Sounds like a convenient excuse to get Hanrahan job back, just as convenient how Hanrahan sucking went on the DL.

But even if that were so, you'd think Bailey would have pitched somewhere in this series.

They gotta make it look more genuine. Game 1 was lost, no Bailey and blowout win game 2.

Bailey is a good guy, I respect that.

There is also monetary reason why Hanrahan may be closing out now. Without the stupid saves stats, Bailey will only get 2+ million raise in arbitration for his final year versus potentially 7M+ if he has a monster season.

I missed the game but great performance tonight by Dempster. Dude has been a stud all year and should have a much better record than 2-2.

I can understand your skepticism. But this would be an extremely weird way to go about giving Hanrahan back the job. And needless to say, if Hanrahan doesn't get the job done everyone would be screaming for Bailey very quickly.

So for now I'll buy the sore bicep story.

What's with all the friggin' conspiracy theories? It's a baseball team, not f***in' area 51.

We should know by firsthand experience how fragile Bailey is.

They would have wanted to use Bailey if he were not hurt. You really really do not want to sit a late innings flamethrower putting him on the shelf for such a long time and then expect that he is just going to perform for you when you call on him. He has to be hurt.

Why all the damn secrets anyway? I see Lucchino's palsied hand in this? Why not simply tell the fans what the hell is up with Bailey. If the opposition doesn't see him for days they know something is up and no harm is done. At least the Red Sox fans would know what's up. Whoever is sitting on this stop trying to be the CIA. Is Bailey or hurt or isn't he?

I missed it too JB. The wife and I spend the day at Disneyland. So glad we won another one, but from reading what you guys have written the game was boring and nervous time the whole way through. Still when a team plays below their best and still wins it is a good sign. We sure as hell didn't do anything like this last season. Just the opposite most of the time.

Why do you feel like they have to tell you?

When they put him on the DL, you will know hes hurt. If they dont, he is not hurt. Pretty simple.

Haters are going to hate. They wanted to see the team do bad......now, since they were wrong....they have to find something else to bitch about. Since "Cherries" made them look bad, the only person left to blame is Larry Lucchino (who is impossible to defend).......for literally no reason.

It's the Bill Belechick syndrome. In football if you don't know who will be suiting up against you, it makes strategy a little more difficult. In baseball, their is no advantage to holding back on an injury. I would be surprised if this wasn't addressed in the postgame press conference.

I don't feel like the conspiracy theories (in this case) are coming from a place of hate. I think people just don't like to "not know" the answer/reason and therefore are doing "mental gymnastics" to figure out what could possibly cause Hanrahan to pitch instead of Bailey.

I don't think it has to do with anyone being wrong or finding anything to bitch about. The majority of posters I've seen have admitted they were wrong about something. I've admittedly been wrong in many predictions about how the team and various players would do.

I can't see any real Red Sox fan wanting the team to do badly just to prove that they were right.

It was already reported that it's a "minor" bicep injury. But since it's Bailey, they're giving him some time off as to ensure that little bicep complication doesn't turn into his arm falling off while he's unzipping to pee.

For what it's worth I believe he (finally) has you on ignore so you don't need to wait for a response. Not that you would, but I don't want you to waste any time.

I was thinking that.

Fred would go insane if he were a Pats fan....we deal with that every day of every week.

He doesnt, I can see his posts.

That's not how it works.

If he has you on ignore, then he can't see your posts.

If you don't want to see his posts, you'd have to put him on ignore.

I know he has you on ignore because I helped him with the configuration to put you and a few others on ignore to stop the angry postings.

....then quoting him all over the place so Fred can see what he's posting and then wonder why a shitstorm ensued.

I thought of that, however the quotes from SCM I quoted (that Fred can now see because I quoted) weren't mean jabs at him.

And if a shitstorm did ensue (which it shouldn't based on the nature of the posts quoted) I certainly wouldn't sit back and wonder why it started.

We are all probably over analyzing this, but after they went out of their way to say that Bailey would remain as the closer and Hanrahan stating that he is okay with it and just wants to help the team, it makes you wonder why they went to Hanrahan in the first save opportunity after saying that stuff. Bailey's history of frequent injuries leads us down a dark path.

I agree with you about the prediction stuff. I love that Nava is outperforming all expectations and that the team is performing excellently in all key aspects. Some people view that as some form of vindication against other Red Sox fans. Weird, especially since very very few people had gone on record in the pre-season predicting a Division Championship. SFF is the most enthusiastic positive guy here, and although he predicted that this was a playoff team, I am not sure whether he predicted a division championship. Should the posters who predicted a good shot at the second wild card be unhappy if the team wins the division? Should they be chided? Bizarre. It's odd that winning is not enough to make them happy.

As for Dempster, where were all the posters clamoring for the Sox to sign him in the off season. Pre-signing, almost everyone thought the Sox should stay away from him. I'd like to see the posts where people recommended him pre-signing. Most thought he wouldn't transition well to the ALE. Should they be unhappy that Dempster is doing great? Again, bizarre... right?
