Does Bard have any more options? That's what surprised me the most about the decision to bring him up when they did.
Yes, I think Bard still has options left, but I can't be certain.

Not to mention we'd have Breslow, Morales, and Hanrahan eventually coming back, which I assume would spell the end for Bard (minors), Aceves (going to another team), Miller (just plain released) and Wilson (minors)

Its crazy to think that all these years, no one has been willing to pay more than 13 million to steal Ortiz away from the Red Sox.
We have been lucky that most teams have followed a philosophy where they don't want a dedicated DH. Plus, I think age has factored into teams shying away from him, not wanting to sacrifice draft choices for an old guy.

After the game, catcher Ryan Lavarnway was told he would be heading back down to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for Sunday’s starting pitcher, John Lackey.

 

Shame we didn't get the chance to see him against these bums.

Yes, he has been breathing heavily the entire season thus far. He disclosed that he had a recurrence of his lung cancer, but says that he is okay. I hope that he is okay.

I know there are factors, but there are always factors when signing players. Hamilton's addictions, Crawford's heavy splits, Lackey's peripherals etc etc. Ortiz has been the biggest bargain in baseball for many many years.
