Back when you were in your early 70s, right?

Now that's good Youk. That IS funny and, believe it or not, I'm laughing my ass off. I wonder why I even mentioned 1960 since most of the people here might not even have been born then and fewer remember that series. I think I'm the oldest guy around here at 72, so I remember the WS well. The Yankees won three games by wipeouts and the Pirates won four close games to win it all and then the Yankees fired Casey Stengel.

This series reminded me of that WS. And notice the Orioles and Yankees lost so we got back that game we lost yesterday.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hey iortiz, just a word or two of caution. It would be terrific is we could run the tables on the Astros this next series, but it seems too many are taking this next set of games as near sure things. They are not. We have a better team this year, no doubt about that, but our wins don't come easy and we have to earn every one we get with an occasional exception. We need to treat Houston as any rival we play or we may be surprised. If, OTOH, we play to our ability we all be smiling to beat the band come Sunday evening.

Close win, nail biter, and scary but a good way to end the A's series. They slaughter us one game, we get them two by close scores and take the series. Reminded me a little of that 1960 World Series between the Yankees and Pirates.

Agreed Fred, we have to take this series seriously.

Have you read some of the posts on the new game thread User started this evening? Wow!!!!! I appreciate their confidence and assurance but I hope the team doesn't go out there thinking it is going to be a cakewalk. As I've said, we're a better team this year but our wins have been hard earned for the most part. One game at a time and no looking too far ahead would be the way I'd go at this. I just hope those guys are right.

I *think* the matchups look like this:

Buchholz v Humber

Dempster v Bedard

Doubront v. Peacock

Lackey/Webster v. Norris.

The one that seems concerning is the last game-- Norris threw 7 shutout innings against the Angels last week. Everyone else pretty much sucks. Their pitching staff is the worst in the majors and it isn't even close.

And Norris has been a mediocre (maybe slightly better) starter for his career, he's just their ace as he's always had good strikeout numbers.

I've always been a big fan of Bedard (like Guthrie) for some reason. I wish him well but I def want the Sox to win.

Since Bedard is transitioning from beginning the season in the bullpen, and the other starters can be pretty crappy, we should be able to tee off on their bullpen. Then again hopefully the players aren't as cocky as we are. And hopefully the bottom of our order can at least take some pitches before getting out or do something to keep the lineup moving.

Not to beat a dead horse but Brooks Pitchfx now has the data up for this game at its web site. The pitch from Resop to WMB that we were discussing and that I described as a bad 0-0 pitch for WMB to swing at is recorded in pitchfx as "off the plate" inside. As in was not even a strike in the first place.

The 0-0 pitch that I did not criticize WMB for from Anderson was not middle middle but it was close enough to middle middle which is why I did not criticize him for it. Although WMB did not get a good result swinging at the Anderson pitch either, at least that was the kind of pitch you could tolerate 0-0.

The Resop pitch actually looked off the plate inside to me but I resisted the temptation to say so at the time as it did not take much effort to wait for the pitchfx data to be available. I waited for pitchfx data to be up as I trust it. Pitchfx is easy to get to. So I trust people can go to the site and look for themselves. In fact I suspect most if not all of us have done so at one time or another.

...after which I will change it to "All Hail YOTN" and then lock you out of your own user controls forever.

You asshats will be messing with mojo. This is the best start we've had in years. If we go into a tailspin, I will hold you personally responsible, and bring down my wrath upon you.

Haha and I'll bring a steak to neutralize your dog's wrath.

Just noticing the production the Yankees are getting from the likes of Hefner, Youkilis, Wells, Ichiro, Pettite, etc. How are they doing it? How can Pettite be pitching like a Superman at 40+yo? How can castoffs like Wells and Hefner suddenly turn into gold? Plus Youkilis, who the W Sx didn't want for his $11 mil option. I don't know. But I know Pettite has used angel dust in the past. So did Colon when he pitched in NY--and then Oakland. You have to wonder if Steinbrenner didn't discover Ponce de Leon's "fountain of youth" near Tampa at some point. It's still early, of course, and April can be a strange month. I'll say it's strange.

Aceves down, probably going to get traded. Lavarnway up. Are we going to carry 3 catchers, or is a bigger trade brewing? Is there any news out there on this?
