I was at the game, and as usual, waves of pink-hatters flooded to the exits in a 1 run game. That being said....

I had been anti-Sweet-Caroline for a while, but the tragedy has given it new meaning. Its turned from an obnoxious unrelated sing-along to a piece of Boston pride-- played in numerous baseball stadiums this week as a tribute to the victims in Boston.

Neil Diamond flew --out on his own dime-- to be with Boston fans yesterday. Sure, it wasn't the best of renditions, but the Red Sox apparently didn't have a copy of the song without Neil's voice, and its incredibly difficult to beat your own voice-- especially the cleaned up studio version from your own prime.

Exactly how I feel right now.

Nava must be eating his Wheaties. He cleared the bullpen with that HR.

You here all the time how the pitchers catch up to a hitter and then the guy craters. That has been Nava's history the past two seasons, but I wonder if it can also run in reverse, that a hitter can adjust to the pitchers. I certainly think that may be possible in Nava's case. He is swinging with authority and good production. Now if we could get a couple of others hitting it could bode even better for our club.

Winning has been great but so many close games. It kind of wears you out watching them. You sometimes feel you've gone through a hurricane in that last inning.

Nava has a great swing left handed, and I've said before he reminds me of the Young Yaz with that swing. He has patience at the plate, and could be the very good hitter at the ML level he showed in the lower minor league levels. He is a line drive type of hitter--as Yaz was when he first came up. But Yaz opted for more HRs after a couple years, and his batting average and OBP came down. That's where the simlarities end, as Nava still has a lot to prove at this level. But he has hit HRs the last few days from both sides of the plate--which is a good sign.

I saw him a few years ago in a Pawsox game with the Scranton Yankees. He and J. Montero had big nights, but Nava looked like the better hitter.Hit a rope down the RF line for a HR. Salty was catching.

Yankee players get a lot of hype from that NY based network media (the Boston media sometimes as well), and Montero doesn't appear to be as advertised in Seattle.

Right now, with Nava and Iglesias standing out (Iggy is hitting like a young ARod in Pawtucket!), Cherington has some rethinking to do about some of those FA signings. Good to see Webster is getting a shot tonite. They need to upgrade those starters behind Lester and Buchholz.

Yes, thank God we didn't trade him. :D

Another way to look at it, given his history (lifetime BA: .251, OPS: .765-including the numbers from this year's fast start) is that he will most likely settle down to his performing at numbers close to his career norms and that since he is at the top of his game, now is the time to trade him, perhaps for more pitching prospects.

I doubt we'll get anything spectacular for a 30 year old never was a prospect. He's an above average bench guy who can start for a length of time if need be. I see no reason to trade him.

Alone, you are probably right. Packaged with other prospects its possible we could harvest a good pitching prospect. Lavarnway is such a prospect. He has hit at every minor league level he has played in and has not received a fair shot with the Red Sox (and probably never will) because he is blocked by Saltalamacchia. As long as Salty is here, Lavs will not be brought up. He is better than a backup catcher. And Vasquez is highly rated by some as having good potential at catcher as well.

Nava's ceiling may be higher than that. He seems to keep getting better. Some of his dropoff last year may have been due to the wrist injury. We'll see.

I doubt Lavs is worth much anymore. He's still questionable defensively and his bat has regressed. Not to mention he was awful during his ML stint in 2012.

I have always liked Sweet Caroline and the 8th inning tradition. Neil Diamond's intentions were good. But sitting at home, it sounded horrible. :(
