The sox are peaking right now, lol. BTW, another save by Mo! We might need to coax him out of this whole retirement talk. He looks better than ever

Yes, the advanced stats, the same ones that said the Orioles weren't going to make the playoffs, until they did. This Yankees team reminds me of the great teams in the late 90s. Veterans all pulling in the right direction. A rotation that may not have been the best in the league, but gave innings and held leads. A bullpen that was completely lights out. And an offense that hit to situations and hit in the clutch.

In terms of the pythag, the Yankees have outperformed it for nearly 18 years. Why is that? Because when they have a lead in the late innings, they don't lose. That also has a lot to do with Mo. And speaking of Mo, he hasn't blown a save.

Someone kick the jukebox, it's been stuck on "Mo Hasn't Blown A Save" for the last hour.

You mean for his last 18 save opportunities

Ichiro picked off in a one-run game. Mets must be contagious.

Here comes Mariano. I wish I could remember how many saves he's blown this year...

Well that sucked

Fish in a barrel.

The Yankees offense is officially in a tailspin. Here are their rankings for the month among all 15 American League teams.

OBP - .290 (15th)

SLG - .390 (10th)

wOBA - .295 (14th)

wRC+ - 79 (14th)

Very disappointing trip to Queens. Hopefully we can even things out back in the Bronx before the Sox come to town. I've got a good feeling about tomorrow night with Phelps on the mound. Partially because I'll be there, and the Yanks are perfect in games that I've attended so far this year.

Those numbers that Standing Room posted are very telling, though. Looks more like what everybody expected from us coming into the season. Hopefully getting Tex and Youk back in the lineup possibly as early as Friday will help. Only downside is Adams and Overbay lose their playing time, and very possibly their roster spots.

It's going to take a lot more than two players to make the Yankees offense average.

Not to mention Tex doesn't exactly get off to hot starts, wrist injuries destroy power, and he's been on a downward spiral since 2009.

If there is one thing that I've learned about injuries, it's that the player you get back when he returns does not equal the player you had before the injury, at least not for a month or two.

The ironic thing is that the players Teixeira and Youkilis will be replacing in the lineup have been some of the Yankees best hitters this month. Their worst hitters this month will still be in the lineup.

Romine - .126 wOBA

Ichiro - .254 wOBA

Wells - .273 wOBA

Stewart - .284 wOBA

Hafner - .290 wOBA

Nunez - .296 wOBA

Nix - .301 wOBA

From April 28 - May 28, one month, Lyle Overbay has hit .270/.321/.530, 6 HR, 20 RBI.

Yeah. Tex is an upgrade. The same Tex who hasn't had an OPS over .850 since 2009 and each year his OPS has decreased.

Not to mention, he's had about 10 games worth of spring training and he's coming off a wrist injury. Even if Teixeira and Youkilis do make it back for the Red Sox series (the Yankees have said they'd be re-evaluated Thursday), the Yankees lineup is going to be pretty bad.

Gardner - .334 wOBA

Cano - .374 wOBA

Youkilis - .336 wOBA

Hafner - .381 wOBA

Wells - .332 wOBA

Teixeira - NA

Nix - .272 wOBA

Stewart - .298 wOBA

Cano and Hafner are the only hitters who have been much above league average, and Hafner's fairy dust appears to have worn off this month.

Overbay can work in at DH if Hafner doesn't pick it up. Adams can also play SS

I wish you were managing the Yankees. Hafner's been the Yankees best hitter this year and Adams has played zero games at shortstop in his professional career.

Adams was a SS in college before moving to 2b due to injury. Defensively, he'll out range Jeter and will out hit Nix. if the O continues its putrid run, we're gonna need O. Hafner has been the balls, but he's also sucked lately and he's hurt. You ride the hot hand

David Phelps just got destroyed by the Mets. He recorded one out in the first and was knocked out of the game when Ike Davis of all people drove in the Mets 5th run. Loud "Let's go Mets!" chants can be heard from the crowd at Yankee Stadium.
