Still in first my friends. We get tonight off then get 3 against the Rays, which will be tough. But we get 4 vs the lowly Mets before we take your asses to task in the Bronx. Tex might be back for the Red Sox series.

Even if Tex is a better than Overbay, he's not an upgrade over the production that Overbay is actually giving.

That's actually exactly what i meant.

Unless the Yankees have a time machine for Mark Teixeira too, I don't see how it will significantly improve them. A perennial slow-starter, coming off a wrist injury, who's good for an .800 OPS when healthy?

Prospect|Yankees|The player in question is made of 150% pure awesomeness. Fear us.

Prospect|Sox|He could be good, but this is why he won't be.

Signing|Yankees|This is the missing piece. We'll win 160 games, and the umps will screw us out of 2.

Signing|Sox|Risky move, overpaid here, they'll regret this.

Injury|Yankees|They don't get hurt. Hypothetically, if they did, the recovery will be speedy with no impact to ability.

Injury|Sox|Everyone is a ticking time bomb. Once hurt, they'll never heal right.

Website/Forum|Yankees|Suspension within 48 hours, banned within the week. Metaphorically speaking, he is shot by his own troops. Realistically, it's because bandwidth cannot carry live ammo yet.

Website/Forum|Sox|Tolerance is overextended, faulty defense mechanisms are enabled. Issues are dealt with on a daily basis much like a Bizarro World Twelve-Step program. [/table]

Lyle Overbay vs RHP: .296/.339/.546

Mark Teixiera vs RHP (2012): .239/.331/.438

The biggest upgrade that Tex will provide will be vs LHP. But even that only represents ~30% of the total at bats. Mind you, it's an enormous upgrade (Tex .865 OPS vs LHP in 2012, Overbay .416 OPS vs LHP in 2013) but again, you face a large majority of RHP rather than LHP.

Sidenote: Can we please stop pretending that, just because Tex missed the actual month of April, he won't have a slow start?

He's a historically slow starter (career .238/.342/.423 line in March/April). Not only does he start slow when healthy, but he's now had an injury, and not just any injury, a wrist injury.

Ask David Ortiz how it feels to hit after a wrist injury. Or Will Middlebrooks.

Lmao, Jacko just getting rocked by multiple posters. Hey Jacko, you told us once Granderson gets back, we'd be in trouble and the Yankees would take off. You're only up half a game, and that's with us not performing well(except the 5 game win streak)

We're up 2 in the L column, which is really all that matters. And how am I getting rocked? Dude, we're still ahead of you guys with half our payroll on the DL.

Regardless, Granderson left the game after being hit on the hand and Phelps just took a liner off his arm and went down.

Vidal Nuno matches Moore through 6. This kid has been phenomenal for us. He mixes in 4 pitches that he can locate to all 4 quadrants. And for a soft tosser, he isn't afraid to crowd a hitter and pitch inside. He pitches like a 10 year vet, which is good since he has the fastball of a 40 yr old

So, his performance compares to Buchholz in April? Yeah, basically. Buchholz just isn't a rookie.

Overbay's 2013 numbers are worse than Tex's numbers in any season. If Tex gives them what he did last year, which is not a guarantee but hardly unrealistic, he'll be a significant upgrade over Overbay.
