Jeter has a crack in his ankle. Out 3 months. This gives Nunez a full 3 months to show whether he belongs. It also makes it likely that Jeter picks up his part of the 2014 option at $7 mil. I just hope Nunez can live up to the hype.

Probably he does. But the Yanks have to seriously consider moving him from SS. And they better make it clear before he opts in. Turning 40 with that ankle he can't be considered an everyday SS anymore right?

He can hit. But I'll be more comfortable with his defense once Tex returns.

They can move him to third next yr and move ARod to DH. Regardless, we've been stuck with them for awhile now and are going to have to be creative.

That being said, we're 21 days into the season and I couldn't be more pleased. Our pitching has rounded into form even though Nova really hasn't remembered what won him 16 games two yrs ago. Wells and Hafner have found the fountain of youth. Youk's back started barking, so that's an issue, but he's played like a man on a mission thus far. Tex has had no setbacks for now and is currently on schedule for mid to late May. Granderson is on schedule and will be back in 2 weeks.

What the f***! It seems that every time I have the chance to watch a game (which is rare) the Yankees suck an egg

 It's early jacko......but I hope it continues, of course! :D

Coming into this yr, I was worried about the offense. Now with Youkilis out and the slew of other players out, we're left with an offense where Cervelli is hitting 5th. That's f***ing pathetic

Does Youk have his annual back spasms? If that's it, he'll miss close to a week, but his back will be okay the rest of the season.

CC looks like a shell of his former self. He still has good pitches but can't get away with mistakes like he used to. Has he lost a lot of weight Jacko? He looked gaunt in the face last night.

I wouldn't say a shell of his former self. He's slowed down his off speed stuff to accommodate his lost FB velocity. And the pitches he missed with last night weren't pitched anyone would have gotten away with. He did have a terrible first inning, but did manage to go 6 innings of one run ball after it. He has lost weight, a considerable amount. My guess is he wants his back and lower half to last, and at 300lbs, that wasn't likely. He doesn't have the 97mph heat he had as a kid, but that's been gone for awhile. Last yr he was 92mph, this yr he's 89-91mph. I still think he's going to rival his prior season's numbers, but if he keeps losing velo, eventually, it's gonna hurt him. Thus far, through 5 starts, his numbers are damn good

Hughes looked very good tonight. That slider is going to be the key to his success. His fastball tends of flatten out and since he lacks anything with run to it, righties really can sit and rip, which had been his issue.

It's very strange that a righty who is prone to the HR in Yankee Stadium can dominate lefties to the degree that he has. Last yr, lefties hit .211/.270/.340 against him with 11 of his 35HR allowed. Righties put up Miguel Cabrera numbers with 24HR in 370AB and a .928OPS. That slider is going to go towards mitigating that circumstance. Unfortunately, he doesnt seem to realize that all the time and gets fastball happy, which gets him into trouble. The AB with Molina is a good example of that, with Jose being owned on sliders then Hughes throws 3 straight heaters with the game tied and a RISP and he gets beat.

Vernon Wells hit his 6th Homer yesterday. MFY luck that he regains his stroke this year. When he is hitting, he is a star quality player, because he is still an excellent fielder and baserunner and he has a very strong arm. MFYs!

I think they saw that his bat speed was still there. The guy just hated being in Anaheim for some reason. It's gonna be hard to make a decision when Grandy returns, but I think Ichiro might become a part time player

So Francisco Cervelli, who has taken the catcher's job by the ball sack is out 6 weeks with a hand fracture that will require surgery. Later in the game, Ivan Nova left with elbow pain, which is something I have wondered about Nova for a little while now. Romine has been pulled from his AAA game and Phelps is slotting into the 5th spot in the rotation. How much more can this f***ing team get snakebit. Actually, I dont want to f***ing know

Nova has been suspect since he experienced that forearm tightness last year. That always seems to be an elbow issue.
