There isn't a financial incentive anymore, and we know how much he can regress when he gets out of shape.

When was that?

He was in decline a couple years ago. Couldn't hit LHP. He got himself in shape, and had a resurgence--which made his contract extensions possible.

His OPS for last 5 years:

2008 877

2009 794

2010 899

2011 953

2012 1026

His only really bad year was 2009. And that was mainly the first half. That's not really that much of a regression compared to the off-years some hitters have.

I could not disagree more. How quickly we forget Ortiz' contributions to this team in the past, and the potency his bat still holds.

He may be a bit of a primadonna, but that rant is ridiculous man.

People tend to forget that his 1.021 OPS in 2012 was the best in the AL. Not only was he irreplaceable from a offensive standpoint, he was from a PR standpoint as well.

That being said, wasting time arguing with SoxSport is utterly pointless.

He sucked '08 and '09. Way off his performance previous years. He has come back last two years. Maybe he's juiced up again, maybe he got himself in shape.

I couldn't give 2/3 of an infinitesimal f*** how he OPS'd 1.000 plus last year, roids or whatever, but insinuating such a thing without a shred of credible evidence isn't cool.

People, year after year are always saying a players career is over when they get up their in age. When that player proves them wrong as Ortiz keeps on doing they do it again the next year until finally their prediction is proven correct. Then they say "see I told ya"!

I think Ortiz is fired up to start and think that that will give him the motivation to have another great year, especially near the when the games count the most.

He at least deserves a chance to try. To even suggest different is foolish in more ways than one.

Come on Sox Sport----I'm usually with you on most things but this "juiced up again" stuff is a little over the top. Now the other part of getting himself in shape would be a welcome sign for us because as four of the last five games have shown we could use a little more thunder in our lineup until those we're depending on show a little more success and consistency.

He was bothered badly by that wrist in 2008 but did come on well at the end as he did in

'09 and '10. It was in '09 that we really sucked those first two months. We certainly can't have that again. We need him with the way he played in 2011 and last year until he got hurt.

I want to take this post out to dinner.

The only problem I have with people jumping on Soxsport for his comment on Ortiz is that it is an internet discussion board for crying out loud. Jumping on the guy for a comment like that made on a board about a guy that is known to have juiced is ridiculous. Soxsport simply commented that Ortiz "may be" juicing.

Face it. If Soxsport had made exactly the same comment using exactly the same tone about a known Yankee past user, we would likely have seen for or five posts piling on to that post and not a single dissenting comment.

These guys are not sacred cows. They are baseball players with millions of $$$$$ being dangled under their noses and their culture has become one focused on counting the dead presidents as a means of establishing a hierarchy within their community of players. So don't tell me that a guy that has proven to have used in the past is not at least fair game for a comment that is only a suggestion that it is not out of the question. That is all Soxsport did.

Soxsport does not need anymore evidence for that than he already has IMO.

There is a huge difference between occasional ridiculousness and SoxSport. No one would jump him if, for crying out loud, the man would repeating the same s*** over and over again like it's gospel.

Btw i never touched on the subject of steroids. I'm jumping at the notion that a guy who just posted a 1.000 OPS is done. That is retarded.

Agreed with the second part of your post. Even if he were on his way out, a decline from 1.000 plus would probably still be very good providing he doesn't completely fall off a cliff.
